Hey folks. I've only ever smoked cheap cigars, and wasn't too thrilled with them. Lately when going to the lodge, I've had to walk past a cigar shop, and was curious on what a good quality cigar would be for someone that doesn't smoke much?

Maybe try a Carlos Torano reserva selecta robusto. Nice mild smoke, pleasant after taste.lasts about 40 minutes.

What I would do is go inside the shop and talk with the owner and explain your just starting out. Have him help you with a couple beginner brands, see if you like them and go from there. Romeo Y Julieta and H. Upmann are two good starter cigars in my opinion.

If your avatar is any indication, you look like a guy that should be smoing two Diploma's at once but don't try that just yet.

I've got a "non-smoker" friend who likes a cigar once in a while. He'll turn green if I give him anything strong, so I'll just list off some of the stuff he's liked.
Onyx Reserve- seems to be his favorite.
Hemmingway
Montecristo White label
Cusano 18
He started on an Avo XO a couple weeks ago, after somehow managing to get Jalepeno in his eye during dinner. About a 1/2" into the thing he decided to go home & wash his eye out. Such a waste. *sniff*

A Rocky Patel vintage made him turn green. Oops.

I would have him start with a milder cigar; but one with flavour. Like others have suggested; a cusano 18 or a 5 vegas gold would fit the bill.. I would then have him move onto 5 vegas classic or a Fuente Hemmingway stick. Then he will know if he wants to try more full bodied cigars.

Excellent suggestions all, and although I've been smoking cigars for nearly 11 years, most of the people here have been around more blocks than me when it comes to what they've tried. I'm a boring sort, and when I find a thing that I like in life, it usually takes a kick in the ass for me to expand my horizons.

From my own boring old mannish experience, I can add CAO Gold, Playboy (rather expensive), and if I remember any more, I'll try to add as I go on. 8)

I'll add Helix naturals to the list as well. You know, for fun. :) They run real cheap but are pretty darn nice.

Aha!!! That's one of the others I was trying to remember, yes, another excellent suggestion. Thanks for the memories.

Ive been smoking for about 1 yr. now got started right brfore going to Iraq the habit has increast alot since being here and i agree one of the smoothest smokes i remember was 5 vegas gold i would also recomend a mild Gurka (preicey but very very good) 8)

What about the Perdomo Lot 23? Nice light body but still manages to be medium taste. Seems like a perfect first timer.

5vegas Red or Gold would be great to start with. Both are fantastic for the price.

Thanks guys, that'll give me plenty of sticks to try out and I'll see if cigars are something I want to pursuit.

macanudo gold. extremely tasty and mild. not real
complex, but for a begginer, your palate aint gonna
know anyways!!

cuesta rey. the naturals all are mild and pretty tasty.
