Cigars for my Buddies

Hey ya'll

I'm going camping with my buddies, and they all said they'd like to try a cigar with me.

Problem is, I like strong flavorful cigars (Tatuaje, Padilla, Don Pepin) and these cigars are probably too strong for a beginner (though I smoked a Tatuaje my first time and enjoyed it immensely).

What would you suggest for people who have never smoked before? I'm thinking a robusto 5 Vegas Classic, flavorful but mellow.

Any other suggestions should they enjoy it and go on the a cigar-a-day plan?

CAO Gold. It'll tell a beginner all about the wonderful flavors a cigar can have without the thunderous slam of the freight train that'll hit 'em 15 minutes after a Manly Man cigar. If they decide to go on to a Manly Man cigar after that, it's their funeral, unless they can handle it of course. And if you need someone to do a removal, don't call me, I quit the funeral business in late '96, ha, haaaaaa!!!

5 Vegas Gold went over well with a friend of mine looking for a very mild newbie type smoke. And it's still a nice smoke. Haven't smoked a classic yet to compare but I'm beginning to think you can't go wrong with anything 5 Vegas.

Try the Cusano 18 - that's a really nice cigar for both beginners and experienced smokers IMHO.

Bloof, I haven't even tried the CAO Gold. Ha ha funny post there... too much Independence cake?

Ted, is that really you? Can I be on your show? 8) I haven't tried the 5 Vegas Gold, but it sounds good. The 5 Vegas was very mild but flavorful. I only tried two, but I liked it a lot. Just haven't ordered cigars in a while.

I'll be sure to buy some on my next order and try it out.

Kelvin, the C18 is very good. In fact, I had one this afternoon when I came home from the range. I'll include some in my next order.

I wish I could get some Cubans, because you know they'll be asking for those!

They are over-rated. I doubt your friends could find the subtle differences between them anyway. Stick with NC's, they are less expensive and legal. Or, just take the bands off, and tell them they are!

I would think about taking a box of C.com Cuban label.

Whatever you do, don't hand out Joya de Nicaragua Antano.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the first guess of a 5 vegas classic robusto. I have a bunch coming in for the fishing trip at the end of Augst with my inlaws.

I sometimes pick up one of the Cusano CC, MC, or P1 bundles for less expensive but decent smokes.

Thanks for the replies fellas!

So I'm gonna buy:

5 Vegas Classic
5 Vegas Gold (I haven't tried these myself)
Cusano C18
Cigar.com Cuban and Corojo labels (tried the Cuban label but not the Corojo)
I MIGHT get the Montesinos which I've never had, but I think I'll have enough here.

Capt, I've heard that about the Cuban cigars, but nearly every beginning smoker says, "Can I get a cuban?". This was me 3 years ago too.

Thanks for the advice!

The corojo & cuban labels may be a bit much for newbies. Don't get me wrong, the Corojo are great, but both are full bodied smokes IMHO. The blue, purple, and especially cameroon might be better choices for inexperienced smokers. Just my $0.02

The more I think about this the more I realize that you should send me a sampler first then I can let you know what others might like...HAHAHA!

Seriously lots of great suggestions. The 5Vegas rock!
