Are Maduros the new thing??

I recently visited a local cigar shop that I had not been into for a couple years. I asked if they had many Maduros in stock? The owner replied.
"Yes, Maduros are the 'New Thing' nowdays!"

Is this true or only true out here in the Pacific Northwest?

Well...

I'd say you will find a LOT of maduro fans!

Overall though, I see a bit of a trend away from maduro wrappers in the industry. Many people prefer the Corojo Rocky Patel Edge over it's brother for example...
YMMMV though...

My .02...Smoke what YOU like!! 8)

It does seem that the corojo cigars are making a lot of noise these days, but I still prefer a maduro, with cameroon being my next choice. That being said, I haven't really noticed a favoritism towards maduros at the local B&M shops that I go to.

im not so sure about the "new thing" but i can tell you that i like em. ive been smoking a bunch of sumatra as of late also.

i can see the corojo statement before. I like corojo as a filler. Im also starting to like criollo as a wrapper. ... but for some reason have not had the CAO ciollo.

the camacho havanna line has just that combo. Criollo wrapper and corojo filler. reall A$$ kicker.

maduros like the partagas black, cusano P1, 5 vegas series A, and sancho panza maduro are all still my favorites though. the sweetness and the (usually) woody note gets me every time.

They're not new. Lot's of people love maduros, and I'm one of them. I also love corojo. When you mix the two you get a fantastic cigar! Try maduros and judge for yourself. New blends come out all the time. If you like it, smoke it!

The new thing? Maybe not. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of a renewed or expanded interest.

I'd guess that now that the "cigar boom" has settled a bit, makers can afford to let more leaf sit around and madure (new word I just made up :) ) as opposed to needing as much as possible as soon as possible to meet demand. And since they can make more maduros, they probably are, causing what would appear to be a boom of maduros on the market. And a boom of a particular kind of product can definitely lead to a growing number of consumers.

I am a huge fan of the maduro... except I love the large ring sizes (ie Gloria Cubana Serie R) . 50+ = :)

im starting to find that im liking the lonsdale, lancero, corona sizes more and more. dont get me wrong, i still ove the big fat cigar that makes you feel like a mobster, but the smaller ring size, im finding, has a more complex taste to it.

I've prefered smaller ring sizes for several years. Large ring guage cigars just feel too clunky to me. Maduros are one of my favorite wrapers as well. I can't wait to get a chance to try one of the all maduro cigars from Camacho.

Madure........That is a good one!!!!!!!

I love Madured Maduros

Maduros tend to the sweeter side. That seems to be the big draw. That said, maduros have always been a big thing with people.

Personally, I don't really enjoy the "black" maduros, almost too sweet for me. My favorites would be considered, by many maduro afficiandos, to be something else - the Padron Anniversario maduro, Punch maduro, and other lighter (not black) maduros.

My favorite wrappers have always been the more red wrappers - EMS, Colorado, Corojo, Cameroon.

I am with you there Kuzi. 90% of my purchases these days are lanceros and coronas. As far as Maduros go - I won't turn down a freebie but I don't buy them. Just not a fan I suppose. My favorite wrapper would probably be an Ecuadorian Sungrown. But...as I said before, freebies are always good.

If you like Reddish wrappers try the Partagas or Rocky Patel Spanish Rosados. Both are med bodied and very good.

Thanks for the replies. I have yet to try out a Corojo, but the
Criollo from CAO was fantastic.
