I was completely floored when this news came to me. An article that I read referenced the tax that instigated the Boston Tea Party as a less egregious act.

The good news is that Bush vowed to veto it and I bet they don’t have enough votes in congress to override. However the whole tax and spend and the brainstorming for new potential items to tax has got to stop and it has to stop now. We don’t need any new taxes on anything. I already pay enough to the federal government. I don’t understand why some politicians think that increasing taxes or proposing new ones will be good for the country. They are not “helping the children” that is only a marketing ploy which sounds good in the news! Even nonsmokers have to agree that this is one of the most ridiculous proposed tax increases in history and it will cost people jobs and their businesses. I can't afford this tax and my cigar purchases will grind to a halt. Please call your senators and tell them to vote against this tax increase.

I've never called any of my lawmakers before this came up. But I called and emailed my 2 senators also. I can't believe the ridiculous gougeing this bill represents. Tobacco users have been paying more than their fair share for quite a while now, and it has to stop somewhere. Please call or email your senator. If you don't know your senators email address just google his or her name and click on the link. 2000% !!!!!!! It's a total ripoff.
