Information on humi construction

I installed a cooling unit in my humi and to do so I had to cut a hole in the back. I discovered that the back is not even wood. IT is paperboard with a cedar veneer on the inside and painted on the outside. I like this humi but just thought I would let you guys know so you could ASK the retailer your considering buying from. I am posting a pic of my humi and the cutout from the back.

FYI the ad says it is cedar lined and that is true. IT does NOT say it is all wood box. I must admit I never thought of asking nor did I notice that it did not say is was not all wood construction.

Hope this helps you in your humi buying.

I like this humi and would still recommend it but I dislike being taken advantage of like this.

Was the back the same color as the front?? or is it just the back panel??

Well, that sucks for sure. Hopefully it still works for you and keeps your cigars in tip-top form.

I know what you mean about "all wood construction" and "real wood construction" when it comes from the marketing department. Much like with any wood furniture, I'm never certain what that means. Just like McDonalds says "all beef", sure, but who want to be eating cow hooves.

I think what I look for and ask is if its "solid" wood construction. Solid wood meaning the pieces are cut right from a tree. Unlike say plywood or press board, which although being "real wood", its not exactly as nice as solid wood. I also think about hardwood flooring for example. The difference between solid wood floor versus a laminate like Pergo for example.

Yes the back was the same color and the inside cedar is the same color.

SO true brother. That is why I have posted this to inform all of you before you buy. Just doing my part..

Do you think the whole thing, with the exception of the doors, is made the same way??.

You might want to write the company. It might not do anything for you, but maybe they'll change thier description so others might not buy something that they think is higher quality. Just my .02

I have the same cab. My apt gets hot as hell and I was going to rent a climate controlled storage space to solve the prob...but this sounds better. What did you use? How did it work out?

Only the back is made of paperboard. It is common in furniture construction to use a lesser quality wood for the back as most wood is to expensive to wast it on part not subject to getting banged up.
