My cigars have gone bitter!

A friend from the U.S. sent over some Don Sebastian churchill cigars over summer. And I havent been keeping them in a humidor since I dont have one, just in their individual plastic sleeves and a sandwich bag and now I've smoked 2, after having them with me for 2 weeks and find that half way through i get this horrid bitter taste, i try to keep smoking it to see if it will pass but it doesnt seem to.

What do you do when this happens? Does it mean they're all some how rotten? They look fine, I dont get it.

:(

I wold say try and find some tupperware and put a shot glass of water in there. Wait for a few weeks and see if they come back. Not sure if that helps. You may want to wait for some of the experts here though

well actually i do have them in a green plastic tupperware thing but no water in there, any of you think I should take them out of their plastic and just have them resting in there?

When i think about it i keep them in the kitchen where it gets quite hot, I guess a cooler environment too?

Unfortunately, your storage conditions are far from ideal. Expecting the cigars to smoke well and be at the peak of freshness and flavor is unrealistic. The brand you metion is also one I am unfamiliar with, they may have that flavor when fresh as well...

The tupperware-style container with some sort of humidification device is one of the least expensive ways to maintain cigars if your budget will not allow a true humidor. Trust us, a small investment in the care of your smokes will provide you with a generous return...

Please ask any and all questions in refernce to the acquisiton and set up of a tupperdor, we'd be happy to help.

yeah that would be really great, right now I just have a tall slender tupperware thing, one of those with a flap at the top for pouring cereal out of.

I sort of realised that I know nothing about keeping cigars since I didnt know if it was better to remove them from the sandwich bag and their individual sleeves or not.

I've put an egg cup of water in the box and closed it up again and now I'm keeping it in a cooler part of my room.

What things would I need to set up a proper tupperdor?

It's really very low-tech....

I'd recommend a digital hygrometer off the bat, this will need to be salt-tested (check the Cigars 101 section for how to's), and then will be able to tell you the current state of affairs in your storage facility(Temperature and Relative humidity).
I would then have you look into some sort of passive humidity device that will regulate the RH for you. A LOT of folks use the RH Beads or certain brands of (no kidding) crystal bead cat litter to do this. Again, searching the Cigars 101 section should help you here.

That really would be it for a basic, no-frills set up that will allow you to actually enjoy the cigars as they were intended.

Hope that helped!

USE DISTILLED WATER ONLY!!! :)

and, look over that container you have, I'm a little concerned that the flap on top may not seal very tightly, if it does, no worries.

If it doesn't....
Get a new container. If you go this route, I like the Lock N Lock conatiners. A fellow I know from Saskatoon hooked me up with a small one that I carry every day....

distilled water.... thats filtered right? Or can you just boil tap water?

Jesus my cigars have better quality water than me

Distilled water is maybe $.69 or so for a gallon just about everywhere. I get mine at CVS or Rite-Aid. From what I know it is neither "hard" nor "soft" so it doesn't leave mineral deposits, salts, chlorine, etc.. behind. Definitely not junk you want in/on/around your smokes...
Live a little! lol

Good Luck!
