Is it just me or is the world overstocked with Rocky Patels and any Gurka out there. Every site that has one day deals or a weekly special is pushing these stogies. Granted, they are great sticks but a little variaty would be nice.
Are most of these sites sister companies of some big comglomerate? Would seem that way.

ok ... im gunna say it.

and i may get booted off this board.

I am not a huge RP fan.

dont get me wrong. hes got good stuff and i totally respect it. I just like other brands more. no biggie.... i hope. this is why i will agree with you 100%

it seems that all the "deals" are on RP and gurkha. (i do love gurkha though)

here is my theory why: they attract customers.

its that simple.

I agree that RP stuff is over rated. I just bought a couple of the 'decade' smokes so that I know I have tried them all. Don't get me wrong...the Old World Reserve smokes are good, but they are a very close price class as the Padron 1964 which is in A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEAGUE. RP stuff is good, just not good enough to justify the price.

I'll pile on...

I'm not a huge fan of either brand. I notice the Gurkhas at my B&M hardly move at all. There's no way I'm going to pay full retail price for a Gurkha when I can get them from the devil site or a good online deal for a fraction of MSRP. As for RP, the Olde World was great at first, but it seems like the ones lately have taken a dropoff in quality. I totally agree about being in a different league for the price. I missed out on the Decades here, but next time they come in, I'll give them a try. Also, I don't like that I smoke an Edge Maduro and end up with brown stain on my hands. And again, like the Gurkhas, I see no reason to pay full price for Vintages or Sungrowns when I can get seconds for a fraction of the price online.

My 2 cents...

The RP Vintage series is still the best, IMHO, nothing he's come out with since has come close.

And I can't even begin to keep up with all the different Gurkha's out there now. I only buy them when I can get a really good deal from one of the on-line sites and I never pay the B&M prices for either.

Just my .02

Guys - please forgive my ignorance, but can someone tell me what IMHO and B&M stand for?

IMHO = In my humble/honest opinion
B&M = Brick and Mortar (i.e. local cigar shop)

No problem!

I am with you on this one. Some company's the bigger ones especially can reduce there price without hurting the bottom line. This way if you like it you will buy more at higher prices.

I personally would like to see some different specials. How about the Gran Habano 3 SIglos? Maybe a Don Pepin sampler?

the edge maduro is my biggest seller right behinf it is the edge sumatra as long as I can get them they will be flying off the shelves at MSRP, no reason to discout them unless they buy a full box of 100 sticks then I give a 10% discount, sue dont want to hurt the bottom line ! , the old world is a good smoke but like some one said , not a padron 64 , my go to brands are (domestic) Bahia maduro, #1 in my book, Fuente , Don Carlos line at a close #2 & Partagas Spanish rosado @#3 I used to love the Perdomo rosado but cant find them anyplace, as far as ISOM's PSD #4 , Monte #2 along with a Sancho panza torp to round out my top 3 , as far as Gurkas , well I like them as lpng as some one else is paying for them , when you get into that price range I favor the Dunhills & the Opus , as far as I'm concerned, what ever sells will get the best spot in the humidor , walk in grab it pay for it smoke it get an other one KACHING I love to hear the cash regester hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince
