I seem to always fall short in this department. I am a Gurkha man myself.

I dont care what a cigar is "rated" , I trust my own taste, I try it before I comment on a cigar , I have been smoking cigars since 1955 long before a lot of you were born,, maybe before your parentswere born, I dont care what CA or any publication has a number system If I like it I soke it , Right now I have a Bahia Maduro torp in the ashtray, a Fine smoke , sure I some the big name stuff but when it comes to the Hidden Jems thats what I look for , there is a lot to be said for running a cigar shop when you love cigars , being retired has an advantage also, I can hang out at the shop all day, get samples from the sales people & I have a nice "Humidor" & smoking room at home, so when I get to try some thing new, I get like a kid at Christmas, & later tonight , I have a new cigar from the Miami cigar group, dont have any idea what the name is , havent looked at the band snice I got it this afternoon,,,, it passed the sniff & squeeze test, & as soon as I get the single malt in the snifter & get the coffee on I will be trying it ...... Who needs a steady diet of Monte & Fuente, ( I do LOVE the Don Carlos #3 as many of you know, but I have cut back to a few days a week as the starter for the DC3 , I have been alternating the CAO La Travitia corona, & the New Rocky Patel Cammeroon corona with the blue band, ,,,, What I want to start my day with is the Partagas series D #4 robusto , But the Ban on Cuban cigars puts a real crimp in my tastebuds ....... Enjoy, Vince

Hey Vince, has any rep from El Tiante Cigars been to your shop? If so I am curious to know what you thought of them.

I met #23 at the cigar show out in Vegas a few years ago, I have been smoking them ever since, we dont have them in the shop but I keep a small stash for my self, & thanks for reminding me , I need to get a box soon... The rep has not been in the shop that I remember but I have talked to him via the phone
Didnt he play for the Pirates a year or so , I think I remember him at a game that i was at back when they played at 3 rivers statium, I havent been to PNC park since they took out the montecristo lounge ,,,, the dirty ba$tard$, passed a smoking ban at the statium....... they can KMA , i was getting season tickets at the monte lounge big bucks for each home game, but the food was great, the Booze was fine & the cigars were Montes & that was all included in the price of the ticket....... nothing like killing the goose that laid the golden eggs ,,,,, I hope the pirates have an other loosing season AGAIN this year, getting close to 20 loosing seasons now lets go for 25 !!!!!HAHAHAHA , Enjoy, Vince

Remind me the name of the shop you work for. I'll see if I can get a rep to give it a visit. I know El Tiante's son Dan who is running the line, he is a good guy.

As for if he played for the Pirate or not I cannot remember, I am not a baseball fan so its history is lost for anyone telling it to me.

If you only smoke rated cigars then you take all the fun out of smoking cigars, and thats trying them all out. Redheads are highly rated but I love brunettes. You know what im saying?

Rating, shmating. The only true way to rate a cigar is by sales, which is what the largest family owned cigar shop in the US does. If it sells, its a hit, simple as that.

I'm not too concerned about ratings. I've smoked rated cigars that I tossed before the half way mark and unrated ones that are my favorites. Everyone's taste can be different -smoke what you like. The ratings might give you an idea to quality but not how you will enjoy the smoke. Ratings also tend to bump up the price.
