Do you GENTLY squeeze your cigars before you buy them?

I recently found myself in healthy debate as to whether or not you should GENTLY squeeze a cigar in a B&M store to determine whether it has been kept at proper humidity. Some people said it was in poor taste and you cant determine the humidity that way anyhow. I felt like this is similar to buying eggs in the grocery store... check them before you buy them. There is no point in paying for something that has gone bad. Any thoughts??

Personally, I want to know that the $12 cigar I am buying is good. I think a gentle squeeze is okay. However a gentle squeeze doesn't really tell me anything about the humidity. It only tells me if the cigar is rolled tight or loose. Too tight and it has a hard draw and too loose and it burns too hot. To determine RH in a B&Ms humidor, I look for split wrappers which could mean the RH is too high or too low. If the cigar wrapper had a nice feel and sheen to it, I'll buy it. It will rest in my humidor for a while before I smoke it anyway.

Thanks for the question and welcome to the forum. Perhaps some of the other guys can give you more insight.

I personally want no part of a cigar someone has put their grubby fingers all over. If you really need to squeeze at the very least do it around the band or with the wrapper still intact.

Great question James!¡! Personally, I don't need to squeeze cigars if I'm buying from places I frequent. If it's a new shop or somewhere I don't go to all the time, maybe, but I usually forget to do it. I don't like touching cigars unless they're going in my tray/ basket.
