A big Hoosier Hello to all.

This my 1st post altho I have read several discussions since joining the Forum. I have enjoyed and learned from many of the member's comments. For myself, I am a retired 70 yr, old male. I am new to cigar smoking and I am realizing there is much more to this than I know. I would like to ask if anyone might suggest how/where should I begin?

Should I begin with a mild cigar and progress forward?
Could anyone suggest a brand? A cigar?
Perhaps most important, could anyone suggest an on-line source for my cigar purchases? I live in a rural area and I will use an on-line seller. I have heard some rumors of some dishonest sellers. True or not, I thought I would just ask someone who knows much more than I do.

Thanks for any advice you could give me.

Yes, better to start mild and go from there. Some of the full bodied cigars are a bit strong even for a long time smoker. As to on line retailers, Cigar Bid, Thompson, JR and Cigar Aucioneer are the auction sites. They are pretty honest, tho some of the brand cigars are contracted to be made by other that the original maker and some of those are not very good. I live in a rural area as well and the closest cigar store (20 miles away) has less cigars and way less variety than I do. What to recommend in cigars depends a great deal on one's palate. I prefer a medium body- full flavored cigar and one of my favorites is the Gurkha Ancient Warrior presidente, when I can set aside enough time to smoke one.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

As Tony suggested, I also would recommend starting with a mild cigar. I've smoned cigars for nearly eight years and nor prefer full bodied cigars. I would recommend joining an online cigar of the month club. Once a month you receive 4-5 themed cigars with tasting notes on each cigar. I was with cigar.com for four years. And what I mean by "themed", one month will be medium cigars, or Dominican cigars, or Honduran cigars, and so forth. It gives you the opportunity to experience a wide variety of brands and types.
