Everything is in motion now as far as the humidor is concerned. It's RH is a steady 71 and the temp is in between 66-68. I have a bundle of Tampa Sweethearts in there as well as a bundle of JR Ashton Magnum alternatives. So now I'll just wait and let them get settled in. One question...As a rookie, why do some of my cigars, when lighting, burn only in the center and then proceed to burn out? I'm assuming it's not being lit correctly? I'm trying not to scorch the foot when I light them so I'm guessing that I'm not lighting it fully? Thanks for your help Gentlemen, Simp

Are those Tampa Sweethearts a flavored cigar? If they are, get them out of there and throw them out, if you want my opinion. If they are a flavored cigar and you're determined to keep them, then relegate them to a tupperware container. Never keep anything but a tobacco-only cigar in your humidor. There are some cigars that considered premium cigars but are in fact technically in the flavored category which won't necessarily ruin your humidor, but almost all flavored cigars will ruin your humidor and the other cigars in there.

The Fuente Anejo, a high priced, wonderful tasting premium cigar has its wrapper leaves stored in cognac barrels, making it technically a flavored cigar, but the cognac flavor does not overpower the cigar, perhaps because of extreme aging. Like I said however, just about any other flavored cigar, including the famous cognac flavored cigars will ruin everything in your humidor, and quite possibly your humidor, so be careful.

As far as lighting, don't hold the lighter under just one part of the foot of the cigar. Move it around a little bit, and don't worry about holding it there for a while. Torch that foot good, then when the whole foot is smoking and showing signs of fire all around it, blow on it once or twice gently but enough to help oxygenate the fire. Then, take two, three, four or even more quick puffs, blowing back through the cigar to try to oxygenate the fire even further. If you have taken the proper steps as outlined, and unless your cigar has a draw problem, your cigar should be burning well from that point on.

Thanks Sir for the advice. No flavored stuff for me. It's the #50's. Not the most expensive but still pretty good. Simp

What Bloofington says is true.

Keep the flavored stuff out of the humis.

About torching. I use a cheap triple flamed butane lighter that I get a local gas station for about 6.00. Just flame the foot all around, and ENJOY!

I think that I am going to have a Cohiba Robusto tonight after the wife and I go to dinner. I make a deal with myself, if I sell a car, then I have a Robusto...if I dont then its whatever. I sold a car last night but the weather was really wet and cold, so no go for me. I WILL make up for it tonight!

By the3 way, Simp....you are definately on the road to ruin

Next you'll start looking at Xicar cutters....all down hill from here pal!

Xikar cutters?!?!?!????? Uh oh, yeah, then it's boxes of Opus X when you can't get any real Cubans, LOL!!!! And we all know how much those Opus X's cost. Hey Simp, try the Hemingways. It seems that the line is back flavor-wise, and they cost a lot less than Opus X. :D

Oh, and if you're married, get ready to catch hell from the wife somewhere around the time you buy your fourth desk top!!! :D
