The Technivorm coffee maker starts with 200 degree water which most authorities agree is the best for extracting the coffee flavor from the bean. With all of the power to heat the water to the 200 degree level you also get a really fast brew from start to finish in approx 5 minutes. The machine uses the #4 filters and is easy to fill and clean up. There is also a visual indicator that shows you when descaling is needed. I could tell that it made a better cup of coffee than the older drip maker it replaces, which is the same (filter, etc) except for the high water temp. They are expensive, but, are known for lasting many years.

We've used this machine for three months now and feel it is all that it claims to be. It will quickly make 10 cups of freedom press quality coffee. We bought the Moccamaster which has the glass carafe with the tube that allows the brewed coffee to fill the pot from bottom to top which mixes it very well. It brews so fast that I will let the filter basket load with steaming water until it is almost ready to overflow (Tom at SMs idea) which allows for great extraction, saturation and then slide the carafe under the filter and let it finish. The only downside that I have found is that you have to flip the on switch off after the brew as there is no automatic turn off which would make this machine a poor choice if you are forgetful of such things. We decant our coffee into a stainless thermo carafe and enjoy it out on a patio most morning, so, the extra hot coffee assures that it stays hot for several hours.
