Happy New Year all. I am proud to announce, that with my many Starbuck's Christmas gift cards, I bought their insulated stainless French press pot. Yes, I'll most likely post a report after I try it. While their are some that denigrate Starbucks, and for good reason, an almost free press pot is hard to beat. Add the fact that it looks very good, and, hopefully, we have a winner.

I asked for a Freedom press for my birthday also. Let me know how it works for you, I was looking for suggestions. BTW, happy birthday!!

No, Sgt. DevilDog, I put up the happy birthday emoticons because we don't have one for a room full of people cheering their general approval. I wanted some raucous cheering. :sm_angel:

Well, I 'm glad to admit that the press is awesome. The stainless steel allows for me to just put it in the washer, if I want. The filter allows just a little bit of sludge to come in, keeping out more than my last press pot did. The insulation keeps the water closer to 210 degrees for longer, making taste a bit better than my other presses. Overall, if one is okay with paying $50-100 for a good drip machine, this one is well worth a good, hard look as opposed to a lower end drip.

How come I said Sgt. DevilDog to Capt? Well, sorry about that one, to both guys.

You should be!!! Calling a Captain a Sargeant!!!! How degrading!!!! You know I am only kidding, both of you.

I should be shot at dawn. To within an inch of my life.

By the way, that incredible lady with the All-Universe looks that you're married to is FIVE YEARS OLDER than you? :eek:mg: :flush:

Yep, she is 31, and doesn't look a day over 25. She is an absolutely beautiful woman, with brains, and one of the most polite women you will ever meet. If you come for the Cigar-B-Q, you will have the pleasure of meeting her, and if your lucky, a nice hug....lol

If I ever get to taste Chef Capt's fine cuisine, I assure you, a handshake and polite distance will do just fine. You're right, she doesn't look a day over 25. As a matter of fact, she barely looks 25. The Lord has blessed you, not just because of her looks. You two obviously have a real marriage, and if she's got one third of the character you always say she has, that makes her a fine woman indeed, and head and shoulders above many American women, both older and younger than she.

I also expect that if The Lord should bless me with 20 more years, then I will be hearing about how your 51 year old wife greets the Detroit Fire Commissioner home from his day with a smile, a hug and not much on!

Ok so I'm a newb at coffee, but what is the diff between using a French/Freedom Press and a regular drip type coffee maker?

I just bought a Freedom Press for my wife.
The main reason for me is that she likes really REALLY strong coffee.
The press meant she could make one cup at any strength she likes.
Personally I think the press makes a much more creamy coffee.
I say that in regards to flavor.
I don't use a press I like drip, but I drink a pot and day in 6 cups,
Misa drinks a pot of coffee in one cup

French press uses a coarser grind, typically giving you more oil from the beans in your coffee. Here's a good link for details.

A drip machine uses a finer grind. The water is heated, then poured over the grounds contained in a filter. As the water flows over the ground coffee beans, it picks up the flavor, but the filter typically retains much of the oil. The flavor tends to be more crisp, for lack of a better term. CoffeeGeek says a bit about drip machines in this quick review of a Capresso: http://www.coffeegeek.com/proreviews/fi ... 00/details
