Not opening a Humidor for several months????

Hi, im new to this site and have a question which has lingered on my mind for a while.

I work abroad and away from home for several months. I had the idea of leaving the humidor with a fully refilled Xikar gel humidifier (which so far has held a consistent humidity just below 70%), wrapping the humidor in cling film (AKA cellophane) to lock in the humidity, for several months until im back.

would my cigars be ok? Id hate to to trust someone else to maintain my humidor while im away :-|

Why not ? If the humidity does somehow fall, just leave the cigars alone until it gets back up to 65% or so. I've kept cigars in a glass humidor jar for several months and they seemed to be OK when I smoked them. Perhaps put the humidor in a airtight bag as some cellophane is not airtight.

I would hesitate to wrap the humidor in anything. I would be afraid of a moisture build up (moisture does need to seep out of the humidor) and resulting mold.

Cellophane is totally a preferential thing and really does little to change the aging or keep it fresher, IMO. I keep it on some of my cigars more for protection of getting tears.

My 2 cents on this. I think that if your humidor is properly sealed and humidified - you should be okay. It's not winter time and the heat is not coming up and sapping out the humidity.

I wouldn't wrap my humidor with cellophane either. If your humidor has a good seal, you should be okay.
