I'm new to the forum but not to cigars.I've enjoyed cigars and pipes for around 20 years and I must say that I never really thought of it as more than my own litttle world.Imagine my surprise to find so many of you youngens in my "Happy Place".One thing I've found is that the price doesn't make for a fine smoke,recently I purchased a bundle of "Free Cuba"'s from CI and they are a damn fine smoke,really good for an everyday personal time.The price would fit anyones wallet and the flavor and aroma would make Grand-Dad proud.No,i don't work for CI but I would gladly sweep their floors for some of the fine cigars they carry.Anyway,hope to share some good stories with Y'all.
Welcome to the forum. Everyone has different tastes and mine told me long ago that there are many better smokes around than Free Cuba. It's pretty quiet here lately but don't be afraid to post anything. The BOTL's here are very friendly.
Thankyou for the welcoming,,while i dont claim to be an afficianado i do like to speak out when I enjoy something.I have to admit that i am not able to afford the more premium cigars,so when i find one that is in my price range that is enjoyable I like to share.I have also smoked "Dark Sharks" and I like them very much.I was given a Ghurka sampler for Fathers day and out of the five smokes i liked the "Beauty" the best,the others were a bit strong for me.I've tried Monty Christos and I didn't like them at all,too strong and kind of bitter.What i do insist on is having my scotch handy when i smoke,Glenfiddich or Speyburns.
Looks like you are in the mild stage of smoking. After a while those other Gurkha might be more appealing, but for the time being it looks like mild is your thing. Back a few years I liked Pirates Gold light wrapper cigars. Never tried a Dark Shark tho. You might want to keep a record of what you smoke and how you liked it and dating those smoke judgement times might also be a good thing. As time goes on you will probably see your tastes change and the cigars you once thought were pretty good are no longer of any interest.

I smoke just about anything, save for the flavored & infused $hit, With close to 200K on the shelf at the shop & a "few " more here at home I find my tastes varry from day to day & who I am with & what we are drinking & listening to music wise. .Today started like most Sundays with a pot of Kona & a don carlos #3 ,after a bacon wrapped tenderloin on the grill & some summer squash , I am chewing on a ISOM partagas series d #4 washing it smooooothly down with a 33 year old scotch..... AHHh Vince,,you're hitting below the belt there.I have to deal with the 12 year single malt.I tried a CAO Gold and a Punch maduro,the Gold was a fine smoke and I wouldn't mind a box but alas I'm a poor boy so I have to pick and choose carefully.What is all the hype on ACID's?Are they worth trying or should I stick with the more conservative brands?
Acids are infused and if you ever get any keep them away from the real cigars in your humidor. Who knows what they infuse them with. I say stick to natural cigars or try the liquor infused ones.
Thanks Tony,I think I'll just stay away from them.I like the naturals.I've two humi's so I can seperate my smokes,one holds up to 50 the other around 15-20.I'm building a desk drawer humi that will hold around 100 to 150.But all the same I dont want to wast time on a smoke I wont enjoy.
I have smoked an alternative to Acids called Inferno. Didn't like any of the 24 smokes in the sampler. I would expect Acid to be better, but I would bet I didn't like them either. On the other hand, I tried an Oliveros that was cognac infused and it was fairly good. I also have a couple of rum infused Oliveros and a couple of more expensive Gurkhas that are cognac infused. Many cigar smokers pair their smoke with a drink like scotch, bourbon, bandy or cognac, so the infusion of liquor seems to make a bit more sense.
Sorry for my absence.Been a bit busy helping on a residential remodel.Anywho,Tony I enjoy a good scotch with my smokes but a fine coffee will always do.I lean towards the mild-med smokes so beer and whiskies are not a good mix for me.I've never tried cognac and I really dont care for brandy so I'll just stick to my Glenfidich and Speyburns.
Ah the good old days when I used to drink Glenfidich and Aberlour and other singlke malts. Actually cigars of any strength go well with drinking of any kind. I often drink beer and some brands are only good with a cigar. One that comes to mind is Raging Bitch, which has a strong flavor that seems to mellow when paired with a cigar. So drink what you like---from water to firewater. Cigars are better with something to drink and even better with cigar smoking company.
I recently learned that my nephew enjoys a stick now and then,so along with my son we can a nice little party started.
Well gentlemen I have just returned from a short vacation to colorado , and no it was not for an alternative smoking substance.
Before I left I did get by the Tobacco Exchange in Edmond,Ok and found a delightfull walk-in Humi with thousands of cigars.They stock hundreds of different brands ,strengths and sizes.I walked out with an Arturo Fuente Natural and found it to be very enjoyable,a fine mild to medium smoke.While on my trip I took a few Felippe Dominicas with me and I can say the fresh clear air of Colorado only made them better.But alas in s.e. Colorado they are coffee deprived,these poor folks didn't have a Starbucks or any other facsimile of good coffee.So while I enjoyed my smoke I had to deal with a coke.We need to send a petition to SB to open a store in that corner of the world.
