Well I finally decided to get off my duff and go to the tobacconist and pick up a pipe and some tobacco. I was just there maybe 2 weeks ago and looked at the pipes but walked out with a handful of cigars only. The gentleman who helped me out was very friendly and steered me towards a low end pipe that he said would smoke cool and was a really good value for the money. It's a briar H.I.S. made in Italy with a lucite stem. I like the looks of a churchwarden but they were $89, this was only $39. He said if I decided pipes were for me to come back and get the churchwarden later, so I hinted to my gf that it would make a good Christmas present ;)
Anyhow, he also hooked me up w/3 bags of tobacco, 2 of them light aromatics and the 3rd just regular pipe tobacco with a lot of Latkia. I just tried one of the aromatics that had sweet molasses in it and enjoyed it a lot! He said these 3 tobaccos don't have much bite so they'd be good for a beginner. He also said as he was packing them up that I was stepping up in the world! (I had told him I was a cigar smoker and wanted to try a pipe). Anyhow, just thought I'd share the good news. I can see me smoking a pipe a lot more now that the evenings are getting cooler as I don't want to sit out back for 1.5 - 2hrs smoking a cigar.

hmm....true...maybe the winter would be a good time to let my smokes age while I take up the pipe....there's a tinderbox about 45minutes from here.....any good online pipe places?

Sorry I don't have any online links, but there are some in other threads here. If you give it a chance, I highly recommend going to the Tinderbox near you and talking to a tobacconist. The guy at mine helped out a lot. I'm really enjoying this pipe, especially when I don't want to be outside smoking a cigar for 1.5 hours. The only downside is my dark beers and bourbon don't seem to pair up as well as they do with cigars. The upside.. the lady likes the aromatics a LOT more than the aroma of the cigars. Just maybe she'll let me smoke inside one of these days, but I'd say my chances are about as good as me hitting the powerball (which are a lot better than the odd of her letting me smoke a cigar inside).

I say give it a shot, for the price of a handfull of good cigars you can get a decent enough pipe and some 2oz bags of tobacco to go with it.

I finally did it today, too....got my pipe...a bent billiard shape unfiltered, only about $17. Also picked up some pipe screen, pipe cleaners, and a 3 in 1 tool.

I didn't really have a good choice of tobaccos though, so I picked up some Prince Albert soft vanilla, and some Super Value natural cavendish. What drew me to the super value is that is said "all natural"...and i actually like it more than the soft vanilla...now i just need to find a good all natural blend i like thats not "dept store" tobacco.

puff you still getting away with sneaking some pipe time in the house?

I lit up some Purple Cow, and my chick says it smells like a cigar  Who knew?

Haven't been busted yet! I'm sure I'll keep pushing it until she nails me.
