Well I finally decided to get off my duff and go to the tobacconist and pick up a pipe and some tobacco. I was just there maybe 2 weeks ago and looked at the pipes but walked out with a handful of cigars only. The gentleman who helped me out was very friendly and steered me towards a low end pipe that he said would smoke cool and was a really good value for the money. It's a briar H.I.S. made in Italy with a lucite stem. I like the looks of a churchwarden but they were $89, this was only $39. He said if I decided pipes were for me to come back and get the churchwarden later, so I hinted to my gf that it would make a good Christmas present
Anyhow, he also hooked me up w/3 bags of tobacco, 2 of them light aromatics and the 3rd just regular pipe tobacco with a lot of Latkia. I just tried one of the aromatics that had sweet molasses in it and enjoyed it a lot! He said these 3 tobaccos don't have much bite so they'd be good for a beginner. He also said as he was packing them up that I was stepping up in the world! (I had told him I was a cigar smoker and wanted to try a pipe). Anyhow, just thought I'd share the good news. I can see me smoking a pipe a lot more now that the evenings are getting cooler as I don't want to sit out back for 1.5 - 2hrs smoking a cigar.
