Anyone tried Multese Falcon tobacco yet?

Just wondered your impression on this new blend. Seems to be making some waves in the industry.

What have you found????

Thanks.

PS:

I viewed the video from the thread below about the "Frank" method of packing a pipe and it work GREAT. Sure makes the smoking experience more pleasurable as not having to relight all week.

I have not personally tried it yet, but I have heard nothing but good from those that have. That will be a definite on my list for next purchase.

Re: Anyone tried Multese Falcon tobacco yet?

I just picked up a tin a week ago and have smoked about 3 pipes worth of it. Truthfully, I'm not impressed. It's good but nothing really stands out about it to me, epspecially given all the hype it's received lately. I like a bit more latakia than it contains, and it seems a bit mild for my tastes. I prefer C&D Star of the East Flake to be honest. Both have latakia, oriental, and red virginia (stoved for star of the east) so they're pretty similar. The Maltese also has flue cured leaf added. It seems to me the C&D has quite a bit more latakia (50%) which appeals to my palate more. I'm not knocking the Maltese, it's good and if you prefer something not as strong as the SOTE then I'm sure you'll enjoy it, but I doubt I'll be buying any more of it. I also prefer C&D Black Frigate over the Maltese as well, which has stoved va, latakia, and turkish.
Can you tell I'm a big fan of the Latakia/Oriental/Stoved red VA blends?

I think its great. I've smoked through two tins of it and love the stuff. To each his own though.

Re: Anyone tried Multese Falcon tobacco yet?

So, 1 week and several bowls of Maltese Falcon later, I'm really beginning to appreciate this stuff. I upgrade it to being better than the Star of the East, but I'll still take the Black Frigate over it. The MF is more complex than the SOTE, which gets a bit overpowered by the high latakia content at times. I read on a pipesmokers forum to pack the MF loose, and this definitely helps. I'm considering buying a tin just to cellar for a few years. I can see how the different flavors would really make for a great smoke with some aging.
