What angle won't they try?

The article does not explain anything about the proposed bill. Do you have a link to the bill?

This bill is major bad news. It would give phillip morris a virtual monopoly in the cigarette business and would put a lot of small cigar makers right out of business.

I would hope the situation in Iraq would warrant enough of the government's attention but apparently not. In Ohio, we can't smoke anywhere except tobacco shops and our own homes. Even when we could smoke, people would give you the evil eye: ughh, a cigar! Cigarette smokers were generally accepted. I have nothing against cigarette smokers mind you, but all these laws are taking away from other vital issues that need to be addressed: the war, poverty, AIDS. When will our country learn?

I can name three times in the last year that I've heard people say how much they love the smell of cigar smoke. I cannot ever recall hearing someone say how much they love the smell of cigarrette smoke.

So..................
What are WE gonna do 'bout this? other than complain, that is.

Is cigaradvocate.org (ya'll are members right?) gonna try to take this on? Can we wait that long?

Obviously the "anti-smoking" folks have got a head staart on us. We'll need to get organized fast if we wanna have any effect.

I believe the only means we have at our disposal is to try and tell the public through "letters to the editor" of our newspapers and calling in to radio talk shows etc, calling and writing our lawmakers and present the facts. The fact of the matter is there is no correlation between second hand smoke and respiratory/pulmonary health problems. The 2 major studies- the 1994 WHO study and the recently published Brit Med study that did long term studies-30 plus years of over 100000 people have concluded this. This is fact. I have no doubt that if you inhale 2 packs of cigs into your body for years that you won't have health problems. But that is a different argument than second hand smoke(which is being outlawed- not the smoking itself.) I only smoke cigars. I pay my (excessive)taxes, go to church, work hard& try to raise my kids right and I cannot enjoy a LEGAL product when I want to. Is there another legal product that is illegal most everywhere?
Sorry for the rant, this whole second hand smoke NONSENSE annoys the heck out of me. Wouldn't it make more sense to require bars/restaurants to have signs that say they allow or do not allow smoking and let me make up my pea brain??

When I read the bill I understood it to be to give the FDA authority over the advertising of tabacco products. Not that they are regulating when or where a person of legal age can smoke. I understand that this is just another avenue for further regulations and we as smokers need to educate the populous about the difference between cigars and cigarettes. I do support the regulating of certain types of ads especially those that are dirrectly targeted towards underage youths. My big arguement about the whole thing is I believe it is our job as parents to teach and protect our own kids not the governments. I think Flagman was on the right course and we all need to start flooding all our newspapers and congressmen with phone calls and letters and E-mails stating our opposition to any further legistlation on our rights as legal smokers enjoying a legal substance.
