I just read that the new Illinois law forbidding a person to smoke in a private establishment has no exemptions. Therefore, the Big Smoke in Chicago has been cancelled. So much for freedom!

holy crap!

at least in ohio you can smoke indoors if the establishment makes 50% of its profit from tobacco

I was going....along with my soon to be wife and my cousin...now...its just fodder for an article on cigarstudent....really disapointed...the ads they were running in cigaraficionado even said..."A welcome place to smoke"...I kept asking my cousin..."how the hell are they gonna do that?"..well...I guess they aren't.

Wow, that really bites!

What about New York?

As for my experience with the Big Smoke in Las Vegas... it was held at the Venetian Hotel & Casino. The ballroom was on the 3rd floor (the highest in the ballroom building, I think). Anyway, to get there, you walk through the casino where smoking is allowed, then to the shops and restaurants area where NO smoking is allowed. Take the escalators up to the 3rd floor, where NO smoking is allowed. The only designated smoking area was WITHIN the ballroom of the event. Walking outside the doors of the ballroom and into the hallway (to go to the restrooms) is NO SMOKING. My friend got caught smoking in the hallway on his way to the restroom. What's funny is that you can SEE the smoke pouring out of the ballroom doors as if there was a fire. But, rules are rules I guess. And I'll be going back for the 2008 Big Smoke in Vegas.

From what I understand, the Big Smoke in NY gets an exemption every year, at least for now. I gotta make the Big Smoke there next year, before Gladys Kravitz(H Clinton) take over and go through with a federal Smoking Ban with no exemptions(just say it's for the Children or something) and all fun will be stopped.
