Zeroing in on a place for . . .

a new bourbon in my life, . . .

Old Commonwealth.

As I've said before, the label on this "no-name" bourbon purports that it came from a 3rd generation Kentucky distiller, a big name perhaps(?) and claims to be a Small Batch, not small batch bourbon, as well as a smooth as you will ever find at 107 proof bourbon.

Yesterday afternoon was my third tasting of this bourbon which I liked from the moment I had my first sip, and noted similarities to another Small Batch bourbon, from a big name maker. I also have noted similarities to another famous name bourbon, striking similarities to both Knob Creek, my No. 11 bourbon, and Baker's, my No. 9 bourbon.

Well, yesterday's tasting may not quite have been my definitive tasting, but I am zeroing in on a place for it. It does not belong in my Top 7, which are practically untouchable. I also have trouble liking it as much as Knob Creek, which I tasted later on yesterday evening, just to have a "side by side" comparison of the two.

Nonetheless, Old Commonwealth is uncommonly smooth for it's 107 proof, being aged ten years, and presents a wonderful flavor combination of slightly spicy oak backed heavily by vanilla and clover honey, and does justice to the claim on its label.

You will find it at about the same price, perhaps ever so slightly lower than Knob Creek, so this is no wallet buster, but it's likely to make my Top 15, so it's also definitely no slouch, with a big bang for the buck.
