With the weather beginning to get warmer and warmer, and as in the case of a couple recent days in New York City, just downright hot and typically uncomfortable, this old (47.54) goat's taste buds turn, as previously discussed, to mixed drinks with rum or gin.

So, Wednesday night being a Hangout With Certain Old High School Friends In The City Knight I brought a bottle of the aforementioned rum, a complete shot in the dark, purchased on closeout at one of my favorite web sites, to the small get together with me. As I neared the host's apartment I stopped off and bought a bottle of passion fruit juice and pineapple juice.

After reaching my friends and greetings all around, I first wanted to try this rum pure, straight up, to get an idea of what we were drinking here. The host, who has probably consumed more alcohol in his lifetime than many hard drinking nations and used to manage a liquor store (duuuhhhhhh!!!) later pronounced it the best rum and one of the best spirits he has ever tasted, bar none. Aside from me and the host, another guest tried it and liked it quite a bit, and I too thought it was certainly one of the tastiest spirits I'd ever drunk.

Well, this was not the setting for a "tasting" in the strictest sense, so all I can tell you is that I got quite a bit of sweetened blackstrap molasses in between the lively discussion, music and other goings on. That was enough. And after one guest had left to make a long drive home, I began making my rum, passion fruit and pineapple juice concoctions, which also were a big hit with all three of us, though they would have tasted better with ice cubes, which our host did not have, and I wasn't running down to the store on the corner just for that, although next week I'll show up with them for sure.

The main thrust of this post is folks, is that we all know that mixed drinks with rum are a great thing to have in the hot summer months, so, . . .

get yourself a bottle of . . .

Hallmark Demerara 25 year old Guyana rum if you can. Not too much left in the world, dirt cheap, one of the best spirits you'll ever taste, period, finis, end of story.
