Ahhhh yes, awoke from a nap on the couch at about 0130 hours to see the drone of the news reporting on the mayhem in the Middle East. And what else would my life be coming to, but to see the Bible read like a newspaper? But I noticed it was actually a bit cold in the house, not the time to be without a shirt. And a couple hours or so ago, . . .

THE SOUND OF . . .

The Furnace In July. Ahhhh, Upstate New York, out in the country, more suburbia and less rural by the day, but by no means an extension of NYC. Still a few farms, small towns, small green hills everywhere you look, the world class beauty of The Hudson Valley, and those summer nights that I've become so enamored with, this being my seventh summer here.

In perusing the weather records recently, I looked back upon a few summertime lows we had five years ago, down in the 40's, and thought "I saw those days," now in the Fishkill weather history. Well, it's nothing like that tonight, but it has dipped to 59 as I type this.

Earlier today, after a meal of Garlic Bloofy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, I had a Cuesta Rey Centenario Connecticut Shade No. 9, . . .

and a bourbon I think I'll be telling you more about as time goes on. There's something a bit "off" about my palate when the weather gets as hot as it's been recently, so although this was my third or fourth tasting, I've held off on a review. The time for that must be right.

But with a high of only 77 Sunday, on a mostly cloudy, but still beautiful day, the afternoon turned clear, and the evening gave way to a cigar and a bourbon I've been curious about for years.

Sam Houston 10 year old 90 proof.

An interesting story of the man the bourbon is named for on the neck tag, and a very nice combination of dare I say it, sweet corn, and snappy spice, perhaps from rye. My first experience with this bourbon is from Batch No. 8, Bottle No. 473.

Binny's has by far the lowest price, although unless you can order from them, you're liable to pay a lot more than the $19.99+shipping they charge for this bourbon. How they can do that when no one else sells it for any less than ten bucks more :dunno: :dunno: , but I ain't complainin'.

In my quest to try as many bourbons that pique my curiosity as I can, it's possible I would have paid more, and may do so in the future, but it's a steal for what Binny's charges. This bourbon has nice body, bold flavor and great balance. I still need more time under just the right conditions to review this, but not a bad shot I made, taking a chance on this one.

There's a massive drop in temperature predicted for this area starting August 3rd. More bourbon weather!!!

Geeze Bloof, it only hit 115° in Walnut Creek, California on Sunday.

It's getting so cold in the summertime that you need heat, how much global warming are you going to have to shovel off your driveway in December?
