Tequila suggestions?

Don Eduardo anejo is a very fine and smooth sippin tequila. Runs about 40 bucks a bottle. If you want sippin always look for anejo on the bottle. Tequila comes in three types silver is new or fresh from distillation respado aged but not to long under three years and anejo aged for at least 7 years. Most anejo tequilas are = in complexities to a fine scotch or coniac cognac. Also tequila quality does not always get better with a higher price. Try the Don Eduardo anejo I think you will be quite happy. If your ever in Downeast Maine I will be more then happy to let you sample any I have. Hope this helps..

I would not buy the Patron I think it is over rated. You might also be able to find a bar in your area where you could sample a few different tequilas.

Being a tequilla drinker and collector for a few yrs. I have some bottles that are #3 of 5,, #1 of 5 etc. For the money I don't think you can beat Cabo Wabo. 100% blue agave. Now if your are talking about making margarita's trusty ol' Jose is your best bet.
We were having a party where the margarita's were flowing fairly good. I came into the kitchen and found a person making them with one of my collectable bottle's. Man what a waste that was. I explained to that person what that pitcher of margarita just cost me. In the next day or two I received a card saying they were very sorry and a bottle of 100 yr. old tequilla. Nice!!!!

I don't know of a better tequila than Cabo Wabo. I'm not much of a tequila drinker anyway, but Cabo Wabo is the best to me. A little pricey, but still very good.

Cabo Wabo is WAY overrated by virtue of the man that owns the company. It leaves a strong chemical aftertaste. I would say and most all rating's agree with me that this is in fact one of the worst 100 percent blue agave tequila. O yea it is way overpriced.

Centenario Plata or Anejo. But I prefer the Plata as my sipping tequila. No salt or lime needed. Just a very smooooooth tequila. I was turned on to this by an old Mexican Diplomat I used to work with. No one knows tequila better than a Mexican aristocrat.

I do like there Gran. I don't do the mix thing if I drink tequila I sip. I agree a good sipping tequila needs nothing.

+1 on Patron being overrated. Its good, but there are definitely ones I'd consider better for that price. Don Julio for one. Corazon and Milagro are both worth trying as well. But I just recently tried an Aha Toro that was just stellar. And will likely be my top shelf of choice for a while.

For the money, I'd take Sauza over Cuervo any day. Their silver (or Hornitos if I'm feeling flush) is my house mixer.

Important note to keep in mind ... "Gold" tequila is just clear/blanco/silver tequila with color added.

So.....whats a good sipping tequila that isn't stoopid expensive like patron or caba wabo? Something that doesn't have the bite that Jose Cuervo has (Cuervo makes me nauseous just smelling it).

I'd say Sauza Hornitos is the best bang:buck tequila out there. Cheaper than the high end stuff, should be under $30 a bottle, but a helluva lot easier to swallow than the cheap stuff.

I may pick up a pint tomorrow at the liquor store

 

• Patron Anejo is aged 12 months. Herradura Anejo is age 24 months. Don Eduardo anejo is also aged 2 years in oak barrels. Don Eduardo Annversario is barrel-aged for eight years before bottling. These are sipping tequilas. You wish to make margaritas, buy something less expensive like Jose.

A similar spirit I'm a big fan of is Gusano Rojo Mezcal. I suspect it's a reposado, though it may just be getting it's color from the worm in the bottle. Very nice stuff for $19, I like it much better than Monte Alban.

It's a bit different from tequila & the other Mezcals I've tried in that it has a smoky flavor. If I remember right the agave pinas are cooked before fermentation, so I'm guessing the cooking method used for Gusano Rojo involves a smoky fire.

Anyone tried Dos Manos Anejo? Looks interesting at $27/750.

I've enjoyed the silvers in each of these brands
