'Wish I'd posted this sooner, but they'll taste great until at least New Year's Day—maybe even later.

St. Nick Sour (variation)
2 oz. Bourbon or Rye
1 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz. almond syrup (I used Torani's "Orgeat")

Put enough ice for one drink into a cocktail shaker.
Add ingredients and shake vigorously.
Pour into a glass.
Garnish with spiral-cut orange slice and lemon twist if you're feeling fancy.
Enjoy at will.

Happy New Year to all! 'Make it a good one.

Sounds like a candidate for a nice summer drink, too. Use a nice, 86 proof, good mixing bourbon, or something like Maker's Mark at an even 90 proof, and I'll bet it would work for a nice summer night.

I will give both recommendations a try, Bloof.

This evening's cold weather mixology included 86 proof Evan Williams 1873 and 100 proof Rittenhouse Bonded Rye. The 1873 blew a mellow tenor, the Rittenhouse higher alto notes. Both delicious.

Cheers.

The recipe sounds much like something my grandmother made us when we were sick. She used honey rather than almond syrup. It would sit in a coffee mug on the night stand. If you coughed, you were to take a few sips. Eventually, you fell asleep!
