I have been taking a sip every now and then for a scratchy throat (got tired of wasting scotch) and now I am wondering why I have not drank it more. It is pretty smooth and much cheaper than Scotch or Bourbon. Are my taste buds off or is Brandy not getting the respect it deserves?

Your taste buds aren't off. Brandy doesn't get the respect it deserves, and like everything else, it has its following. I have to admit, when it comes to that nice, belly warming, throat coating, soothing feeling, brandy is probably better than the bourbon and rye I drink.

Heat it in the microwave for ten to twenty seconds depending on the power of your appliance. Plan on graduating to Cognac or fine brandy such as Germian Robain. Having just finished a snifter of Prunier Reserve

If you want to try something different there's always Grappa but beware, There are some disgusting grappa's out there. I used one to clean the fuel injectors on my Integra years ago.

I have had cognac in the past, there are disgusting cognacs as well. I like Remy Martin but Henessey was nasty.

There's a lot of liquor store Cognac that wouldn't pass for Fin in Europe. The two brands you mention among others put out a lot of five and ten year old product with fancy designations such as VS, VSOP, XO etc. I've tried all of these and moved on to twenty and thirty year old Cognac some time ago. See my earlier post from a year ago about the bottle of forty year old Armagnac I enjoyed. I need to see if BevMo ever restocked that.
