Any Port drinkers?
I just became the proud owner of 42 year old bottle of Quinta do Noval bottled in 2008.
I'm going to open for the first year anniversary of being divorced. I'll post back when I open the bottle.
December 16 2010.

Dow's Finest Reserve isn't what I expected. I need to dig deeper to find something better. Just in case someone else is reading this.

Actually, of the five or so people left in the stadium at this point, I do like port, or should I say, I did like port. I've been through many different phases with regard to beer, wine, spirits in my life, including a recent five year period where my body just plain rejected beer. I honestly couldn't drink it, bad reactions.

But to the subject of port wine, I always enjoyed the rich, full bodied nature of a port wine, and for a brief period in the 80's entertained myself with the fairly big named $15-20 bottles, run of the mill fare at the local liquor store. Along came the 90's and a friend of mine started getting in to some really fine ports. I wish I could remember the names of them all, but I got to try some pretty fantastic ports with him over a period of a couple years. Warre's was one, but there were many others. He goes through periods where he latches on to something, learns everything about it really quickly, and then schmoozes people and spends big money, at least what's big for his budget, and tries all the stuff that's considered good in a realm. Again, it has to do with what he can afford, no $500-1,000 bottles of anything for him. But he will stretch if he gets a tip on something fantastic. I'll see if I can engage him in a conversation to find out what some of those great ports were. My body doesn't deal with wine well either, and I never did get to being a wine drinker, but those port days were delicious.

Well, I was hoping to keep it under $200

I'm glad some one else has been reading.

Don't worry. The best bottles my friend used to get cost him between $50-120, if memory serves me correctly. I just wanted to make sure you understood the income level my friend is at, and that it is not necessary to be able to afford stratospheric prices to get a product you are more than satisfied with. Keep us posted on your findings and tastings.

I was looking at some of the offerings at the local BigBoxMart Liquor store. Anything over $75 is kept in a locked case. Wine, brandy, scotch and etc. I never really paid much attention, now I am!

That's a good place to look. You may find something worth $100 or more, and what's kept in those cases usually is the best. Happy hunting!!!

Now I'll have to pay more attention to your reviews of the other liquors.
I've been mostly into Scotch. A couple of years ago my ex's cousin bought a barrel of Jack Daniels and gave me a couple of bottles. I really didn't see a big difference between that and the stuff off the shelf. He gave it for customers. His favorite way to drink it was right out of the deep freeze
I'm going shopping later this week, I'll see what hits me.

Kopke 1997. Much better than the Dow's next up Offay 1997. Seem as if 1997 was a bountiful vintage year. Two more weeks and the Quinta do Noval gets poured.

Correct spelling Offley Port vintage 1997.
I'm going to pull the cork later this week after work. Maybe a little blue cheese as a snack.

While I have always liked a good port, it has been a wine that I drink very little of in a sitting. Then you are left with a near full bottle. Now if they started introducing mini bottles of vintage port, that would work!

I have seen some half bottles. Makes a nice amount for two people having a late night snack and drink. About three glasses.
I have found that leaving some ports until later leads to disappointment.

I really love a nice aged tawny port! Been awhile since I have had one, but with the winter coming I am sure it will be more often.

Dow's 10 or 20 year tawny ports have always been a solid choice for me.

Ghrams 10 is always a great choice, and I have also enjoyed Bin 27 I think it is called.

The fonseca bin 27 that we had in Vegas, right? That was good. Liked the Dow's 10 year better, but it was still damn nice - especially for the price!

mmmm Port. Anyone try 6 grapes (or something like that; it was a number of grapes)?

Yea, Kev the one we had in Vegas, I agree on the Dows but I have not seen it here, I will have to check the wine shop for it, and I have never heard of the Grape one.. Another to put on my list!

Not a huge port fan, but got one in napa. Sent a bottle to Kelvin I believe. Stuff was the bomb. Could have sent it to Barco, was along time ago
