Local retailer is pushing a new to his store Bourbon. I've not come across it in my travels.
Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel Bourbon, any one have any experience with it? At $42 walk out price for 750ml, I wasn't gonna grab it on a whim.

Been curious about it for a while. The one with the horse on the bottle, not the horse cap like Blanton's, but a horse on the bottle itself, for those detail happy folks monitoring this post. Anyway, I heard it through the grapevine, oops, cornstalk, that it's nothing special. For more specifics, see Hollow Point when he comes back around.

Colonel:

$42 is just a hair steep but I suppose not beyond reason. This is probably one of the most design detailed bottles of bourbon on the market. The bottle itself serves as a nice decatner (no matter what is inside after you finish the original contents).

Getting down to the whiskey itself. . . I should clarify one thing as to Bloofington's referral. I smoke a lot of cigars and mainly with whiskey. That said, I didn't really find RHF to be my favorite cigar companion. That doesn't mean anything really. I sort of look for perfect combos which is the exception and definitely not the norm. It could be that I just need to select the right cigar to complement the bourbon (I usually do it in the reverse order, which is select a drink that compliments the cigar).

Anyhoo, I did find RHF to be very enjoyable after sweets (brownies, cookies etc.). Problem is, I rarely eat sweets and don't really care much for pasteries etc.

I recommend you give it a try. It is premium bourbon in a premium presentation. The bottle has got to be worth about 10.00 filled with water or marbles for that matter!

Who knows, might be the best thing since sliced bread for you!

I agree, the packaging is top notch.

Thanks for the input, it is on my shopping list.

I'm waiting for when they come out with a Mr. Ed bourbon. All this stuff about horses and bourbon. You have Blanton's with the horsey cap, Rock Hill with the horsey on the bottle, how about a horse shaped bottle somebody???? :p

Hmmm you do realize that after American whiskey & bourbon, there's what. . . a bunch of limestone water, a couple of Blue Grass events, maybe a Nascar race or something and then there is this miniscule much a do about nothing thing called the Kentucky Derby which involves racing some four legged animals.

In other words, bourbon always leads you to a lot of horse manure. Well, you can lead a man to horse manure, but you can't make him drink bourbon. :p

Walk out price, $42.99. I picked it up after considering Hollow Point's comments. Bath night for the dogs, I'll dive in after that. I shall report my findings soon.

One sip of that and you'll be the Horse Trailer Player Of The Game. Whinnnnyyyyyyyyy, whinnnnnyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to move off topic, but what recommendations do you have in a rye whiskey. I've tried Jim Beam and thats about it. Any Ideas?

Thanks for asking. Please understand that I have stated on other posts that this list will probably undergo major changes over the winter, because I am rapidly discovering other ryes to try. For the ones that I've tried, here's my current top ten. I would take either of the first three over any of my favorite bourbons if I were going to the firing squad at dawn. Nothing against my favorite bourbons, but I like the first three ryes that much. The first six I like quite a bit, the last four are nice but a bit lacking in flavor.

I had found your list after I had posted my question, but thank you very much for listing them again. I am in Ohio, a very beknighted land for spirits drinkers. Most of the spirirts stores I get to only carry one, thats 1, rye; Old Overholt. I will give it a try and maybe I'll get to Indiana or Kentucky to pick up some other brands.

Once again thank you
