Well hon, rye IS bourbon, kinda sorta, and bourbon is rye, kinda sorta.

You see, bourbon is made from what's called a "mash bill" of at least 51% corn, and other grains, one of which is usually rye, sometimes a lot of rye, like Basil Hayden. And both types of whiskey are aged in new charred oak barrels. And both types of whiskey are TRULY American.

So, that's why the one we had last night tasted so much like bourbon, right Daddy?

You mean The Classic Cask Hand Crafted Single Batch 21 year old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey? Yup, that sure was some delicious drinking, wasn't it? Wonderful, sweet oak, with a lot of caramel and a little smoky spice in there, right?

Right Daddy, and don't forget to tell the folks, you'll go long (in the wallet) for a bottle of this stuff, but you won't go wrong!!!

Yes Virginia, there IS a gentleman.

Old Overholt Rye whiskey Was made in Large Pa, about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh, the Building is still there but the equipment is long gone, I can remember the aroma of the place as we passed it to visit my Grandmother when I was a kid, I dont know if it is still being made some place in this country or not , I have an old bottle ( empty for many tears, it was 86.8 proof some thing I havent seen in a long time , as a member of SNOB ( Snooty Order of Burbournites )I havent had any rye in a long time, I did have a small taste of Pappy van Winkels a few months ago maybe a year, & some Royal Crown , but give me my Highland malt whisky or a weee dram of Islay a fine cigar & let me alone to enjoy them for a few minutes , if I need any help & will yell ! hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

Thanks for chiming in Vince. As for Old Overholt, I do believe I've seen their products listed somewhere. I'll definitely get back to the forums on this.

Folks, back in the days when the country was young, just a little shaver, like Opie Taylor, Pennsylvania was one of the foremost whiskey producing states. Rye was the original American whiskey when America was mostly based on the Northeastern seaboard, but as the nation moved west, to places like Pennsylvania, corn was more plentiful, and so bourbon was born.

Scotch,Bourbon, Rye, Gin,Rum,Vodka,Brandy, wine & beer all have one thing in common(besides the fact that I like them) alkeyhall, yes I have visited the halls of alky a few times in my life & will go back many more times before we leave this vale of tears called life . the Higher the proof the less you need to loose touch with this world, so if you do visit the Alky Hall of the mindless ramblings be sure to have a designated driver or just do what I do , drink at home ! ENJOY life to the fullest !when I die I want WOW what a ride on my tombstone !!!!!
Enjoy, Vince

There's nothing like sipping my bourbon or rye at home, with the birds, squirrels, woodchucks, frogs, snakes whatever's in my yard at any given time close at hand. There's no place like home, quite a true saying, and it really is the best place to drink, unless you're staying at a friend's house. :D

The welcome mat is out & the key is under the mat, how ever the key to the Humi is on my key ring in my pocket ! , the whisky is in the kitchen right above the toaster , help your self , but dont wake me up before 9 am on the weekends ! hahaha ! Enjoy, Vince
