Ahhhh Santa was working overtime this past year & dropped off a few fine single malts, 2 scotch & one single malt Peated IRISH whisky, , it is a wonder I still have a liver hahahahaha! The Connermara peated single Malt from Ireland was a wonderfull suprise Not as Robust a malt as Laphroaig , but then what else is in that class anyhow, a beautyfull golden straw color , smooth & flavorfull, a bit thin on the aftertaste but held up to a Rocky Patell Edge Maduro quite well, it was sipped with a large mug of Kona on the side , which did help a lot keeping the night moving along rather nicely.
Next up was the Bowmore Islay Dawn, it was finished in Port Kegs & has a wonderfull deep color to give a tinge of burgandy to the color of the whisky, verrrrry headdy, a great aroma, smooth & slightly sweeeeet, a great companion to an Opus X corona , again with Kona ( I got a pound of Kona Beans from a gooooooood friend for Christmas ) so I need to drink it all up asap, I have a pound of Kona I just got right before Thanksgiving & I only brew the Kona on Sundays, just to help make the day special, well now I have a lot more Kona than I usually do, so I MUST drink it !!hahaha
That brings me to the last libation of this holiday season, last night , the same FRIEND who gave me the Kona shows up with a bottle of Aberlor A'Brunda , all 121 proof of it, what a sweeeeeet whisky, the color is deep golden red, the aroma is one that I just wish you had the ability to smell what I am injesting into my lungs right now, dammmmmmmmmm it is so Frigging GOOD!, the taste is one of butterscotch /toffee, the viscosity is like S.T.P., it is so smoooooooth I cant put it in words, it is like honey that has extra lubricants in it, like when you were on your honeymoon & the Moaning & groaning were deffening to the people in the next 2 rooms, it was that good ! Get my drift, yes it was Orgasmatic , hey when your as old as I am & have been married as long as I have , just about anything will work hahahahaha
So there you have it, 3 great drams next up , a low cost fine single malt Spayburn my go to every day dram when there is nothing to celebrate but the whisky & cigar it self, & that my friends is a celebration all to its own.
"Make every meal a banquite, serve a cigar at the end !"

Damm I like that statement !

the winds of change

Well, since I have just started smoking cigars, and have my taste buds all out of wack anyway..... I thought I would try to develope a taste for Scotch as well..... boy have I got a long way to go! But HEY, it's a new year, right?

My local, small town spirit store left me with little to choose from (a good thing, since I had no idea what to buy) and I ended up with a bottle of 10year Glenmorangie. Now, my drinking history (small as it is) has been limited to mostly beer and an occasional glass of inexpensive wine, so I had no idea what to expect. I know very little about Scotch other than single malt is supposed to be the best, and have heard that "Scotch on the rocks" is for cheap blended stuff. So, I just poured about 20 ml in a glass (all I had was a wine glass) and started sipping it (is the term...neat?) i was surprised at how smooth it was, but packed a punch! Gonna take some time to get used to this as well, I see.

On top of that, from reading some of Vince's post, I think I am going to have to toughen up my coffee drinking too!! :D

looks like your on your way to being a dirty old man hahahaha, , the scotch neet is fine, but you might want to add a touch of water, about 10 ml to a 20 ml of scotch, swirl it in the glass , Sniff it, deep, sniff again, dont sip , just let it touch your lips, now rub your lips together , , take a puff of your cigar , a sip of black coffee & let the taste buds DANCE, then start all over again, just a little more whisky this time, but not enough to notice , just a kiss kind of sip, verry light, ahhhhh dammm I am getting excited hahahaha.
NO ICE , get your self a nosing glass or a brandy snifter, some thing big enough to get you nose in the glass when you are drinking out of it, the Aroma has just as much to do with the overall experence as the taste, You want it ALL. , look at the way the whisky develops Legs in the glass as the swirlling stops, ( legs what you call the way it runs down the inside of the glass)
Now your on your way to Narvana ! , the prize is the journey not the destanation. Enjoy the trip, Vince

My wife just told me the same thing hahahahahaha

You aint kidding about the Abalour Abunah, it rocks. I first tried it at the Single malt Scotch Whiskey societies tasting. When I did try it the guy pours a bit and said try it. I was like man that is smooth. Then he said put a bit of water in. It was even smoother and tastier. The guy then said it was 120 proof and I was like naw you are kidding me. I stood there watch about 10 people goo through the same routine and all were blown away it was cask strength.

It rocks and is one of my favorites along with the Balvanie dual wood and the Glenmorangie maderia wood.

MUST...STOP...READING...THIS...FORUM

It keeps making me want to go out and buy all of these different types of scotch - but then I don't have any money left over for cigars or ammo!

I can arrange a "LOAN" for you, the small intrest rate is gaurnteed by your knee caps hahahaha !
Enjoy, Vince

Had a glass of Macallan 12yr at a restaurant bar this weekend and enjoyed it very much. I got to talking to the bartender about it and he gave me a shot of Macallan25yr to compair, WOW was that great!

I asked him about retail prices for the 25 yr, then went looking for a bottle. Well, most of our local stores do not carry anything of that price point, and the only place I found that had it was priced WAY over what he said it would go for..... I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the average price is for a bottle of 25yr Macallan. The store I found it in wanted $399 for a bottle, and $699 for a bottle of 30yr. Is this out of line? I did buy a bottle of 18yr Macallan, and am afraid I payed too much for that as well....Any help would be appreciated

Right out of the pa. state store price guide
12 YO 42.99
18 YO 115.99
25 YO 339.99
No listing for the 30 YO
Cask strenght 117 proof 56.99( one of my top 10)
Enjoy, Vince

Wow, thanks, Vince. I guess they were not as far out of line as I thought (The bartender must have thought I meant the 18yo instead of the 25). I payed about $130 for the 18yo. Sheesh... Why did I have to try that 25yo....my budget can't support THAT kind of drinking....

My local stores do not seem to have a wide range of single malts. I was wondering if there are any reliable online sites that I could order Scotch from... I do not even know if this is legal, but if it is, I would love to find some good sources. Thanks in advance
