I am new to wine and was wondering what kind is a good wine for someone with empty pockets. Semi empty pockets rather.

I am a fan of Charles Shaw.
A.K.A. "two buck chuck"

MSRP is $2 a bottle but moste states put Tax on it and gets it on the $3-$5 range.

their cab is quite good. Id pay 9 or 10 for it. the shiraz falls a bit short but is still good for a bottle that cheap.

i also find the Cabernet Sauvignon to be outstanding.

i always have a bout a case of this wine label (various styles) on hand at all times.

Depends on how empty.

Yellow Tail has quite a few wines and most of them (here in PA at least) run around $7 - $8 a bottle. Almost all of them are at least decent.

San Telmo is a wine from Argentina that is very good and runs about $6 a bottle here in PA.

MAN vintners has some very nice wines at a really reasonable price. They are South African, as is Goiya, another nice, reasonably priced wine.

There are lots of German whites available from $5.00 and up. Leonard Kreutsch, Weber, and several others bring us Liebfraumilch, Riesling, and other varieties at reasonable prices.

Depending on the day, you can pick up 2 750 ml bottles for 6.99, usually South African or Australian.

(I'm a front end manager at a Kroger that has a very nice wine section and I act as the wine steward whenever I can)

Veo Grande is a great buy at Sam's Club for about $6.50. Was one of their wine buyers recommendations of bottles for less than $20. I tried one, then went back and bought a case.

That sounds nice. Yeah my pocket is not real empty I can afford a ten dollar bottle of wine, but 2 to 6 dollar range is also very nice.

Have any of you tried Liberty School Pasa Robles cab...I thinks it's excellent. I should stop telling people about it. I get it at costco for 10.99 and our local supermarket has raised the price form 11.99 to 13.99 recently. Oh well.

Smoking Loon is my "party wine" ... the wine both cheap and good enough to bring to a party and let other people drink all of without shaming myself :)

Pepperwood Grove is a runner up.

For myself (cheap, but willing to spend another buck or two) I'll take anything made by R.H. Phillips ... whether it be their eponymous label, Toasted Head, or EXP. They can all be found for under $15 (if the EXP is on sale)

Forest Glen merlot is a great red that can be had for 8 bucks or under. A pretty nice Zin I had yesterday was Boogle Olde Vine Zinfindel. Pretty good at 12 bucks.
