Thanks for the updated list, Bloof. I see some of my favorites are still on it.

Re: Your no. 25 - Ya know, even regular ol' Wild Turkey that can be bought just about anywhere, anytime, is also 101 proof. And very tasty. Not too expensive, either.

And I've noticed that with these better bourbons you really don't taste (per se) the higher proof. I don't think it makes it harsher, or any less pleasant to drink.

Could one of you gentlemen out there please enlighten this poor, dumb slob as to how to go about it??

I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks very much,

Marty

No, but I did read about the release recently, and a review from another web site of a member who tried it. I have to say, with all the highly touted whiskeys that have failed to impress me, even those that have impressed, but failed to excite me, I won't be giving this new release a try. When Maker's Mark finally ages something to at LEAST nine, ten years old, and releases it at or above 100 proof, I might try that product. What I have discovered about the wheated bourbons I've tried through the years, is that they have to be aged to an extreme to give off flavors that I really like. The Jefferson's 17 is such an example. Had it not been aged to 17 years, it's very hard to believe that a 94 proof wheated bourbon could have impressed me. As noted, the body was still a bit light for my tastes, which is why it didn't place higher.

Understood, I lack your finely tuned whiskey palate - I'm a work in progress.

But, it ain't awful... :)

Nahhhhhh, not at all. I just think that perhaps my palate has been bludgeoned in to oblivion. I am perhaps a bit jaded. And remember, the best tasting whiskeys are the ones that taste best to YOU. Otherwise, it would be someone else's taste preferences.

Fair enough, it tastes pretty good at the moment, but I am considering a trip up Knob Creek for the weekend.

And to think, I used to consider Jack Daniels (Black) good drinking...

Well, Jack Black can stay outside the door. He's teaming with America Ferrera to ridicule people who aren't on board with Obamacare.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

And you certainly will never go wrong, at least in my palate's opinion, by getting stuck up Knob Creek, with or without a paddle, hee, hee, heee!!!

As of February 19, 2011, the Bloofingtonian Top Ten Rye List is amended as follows.

1. The Classic Cask 22 year
2. Van Winkle Family Reserve 13 year (A-E bottles)
3. The Classic Cask 21 year
4. 2007 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac, 134.8 proof
5. Van Winkle Family Reserve 13 year (F-? bottles)
6. Sazerac 18 year
7. 2010 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac, 126.9 proof
8. 2006 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac, 132.7 proof
9. 2009 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac, 129 proof
10. WhistlePig 10 year

Yeah, fairly new product, not bad, a bit mild, light bodied, but considering the dearth of fine ryes around, it makes the Top Ten. Only the Top 8 are worth buying, and Nos. 1, 2, and perhaps 3 and 5 no longer exist. I think No. 2 is being attempted still, but being that any new bottles of No. 2 are a new age attempt to keep an old brand around, I have not heard about anything impending. I think it is still a bit to go before Mr. Van Winkle can call any new batch of rye whiskey 13 years old. That's the problem when someone handed you umpteen barrels of something incredible. You put it on the market, people go crazy, and then you have to figure out how to make more, when everyone who knew how to make it died umpteen years ago.

Nope, and I have no intention of doing so. I have read about it, and am not convinced that it would be exciting enough for me to [s:1z9akm4x]waste[/s:1z9akm4x] spend the money. Too many others out there that I'm sure of to take the chance.
