I am going to be in Austin for 3 weeks (10/15-11/?) and I am looking for places to enjoy, w/ and w/o a cigar. Any suggestions? What are the smoking laws? Any events? Anyone interested in enjoying a smoke w/ me? I am there for training and have classes from 1am to 7:30am ( I know weird) Monday - Friday, but Evenings and weekends are good for me. Oh yes, what is the weather like. I was in Austin 4 or so years ago and it rocked. I am looking forward to checking out 6th Street again. Anyway, I am hoping to go to Pete's piano bar at least once.

I know there are some Texas folks here. We also have a bunch of Texas-based friends over at HCF. While some are also members here, one is a former member, and some are only members over there. You may want to check with them too. A lot of good people over there.

By the way, a lot of those C5A flights lately, huh? At times, I've heard two or three in one day. The flights were spread out over many hours to be sure.

Bloofington,

I am in the new house now (Plattekill). I don't have those C5A's flying directly overhead any more. Part of me thinks it is a good thing ( don't want one of them falling on my head) and part of me thinks it is a sad thing (I'm amazed they don't fall on my head). I do however still see them in the distance late at night when I am not working. I started working the 12 hour night shift over here at IBM. This means I only have half the week to sit on the front porch with my Cigar and watch the traffic in the sky.

What and where is HCF?

DD723,

Sounds like you have enjoyed both the sites and sounds of 6th street.

Austin, TX is the most politically liberal city in TX. Having grown up there I can comment on this. They were the first city in TX to pass a city wide ban on smoking. At the time it excluded bars, but I think even that has changed to not allow it periode.

I did not smoke cigars until about 8 months ago, but here the Habana House @ 3601 S. Congress, Suite D-200 looks nice from there website. It has a 9.7 rating from the citypages customers. The phone number is 1-888-5-HABANA. They probably have the best information regarding the cigar scene there.

If you can make a trip to the hill country and to Enchanted Rock it is well worth the trip. Beautiful scenery and good german beer and bratwurst in Fredricksburg.

Sixth street used to be a fun place to go on the weekends. Lots of bars. Lots of music.

Guns. Ah guns. McBride's gun shop is a can not miss if you enjoy firearms.

Hope you have a great time down there. Take some pictures and give us a report! :D

Hey Prof!

Checkout the Bobalu Cigar Company on 6th street. They roll their sticks right there in the store. I popped by last June and had a blast watching them. I'm currently working my way through one of their sampler packs.

I didn't light up in Austin, but did on the River walk in San Antonio. Very nice.

It's another cigar web site, where I have a bunch of friends that I started communicating with in April 2000 during our Cigar Aficionado days. Our Moderators CC, The Colonel, member Tiny Tim and some others are members over there.
