I love coffee....but I'm not sure where to buy good coffee...other than starbucks beans......anyone have a newbie's guide to fine coffees?

There are number of good proprietors of good coffee out there.
I'm a fan of http://www.killerbeans.com

Others I have heard regarded highly:
http://www.unclebeanz.com/merchant2/

http://www.geishacoffee.com/

Now, I will tell you this....
Coffee is another slippery slope! Once you start buying better quality beans, you will want to grind them better, so, you will need a burr grinder, then you will want to get all the goodness and flavor from your coffee, so you will consider upgrading your brewing method. Then you will start considering the money savings and quality upgrade in purchasing GREEN coffee and roasting it yourself. Leading you to the purchase of a roaster and all it's accoutrements....

I have been able to wade into this arena without COMPLETELY submeging myself...but it's calling me....

I get 90% of my coffee from a local roaster here in Pittsurgh - http://www.nicholascoffee.com - their stuff is always well made and the prices are reasonable.

I highly recommend their Kenya AA and Tanzanian Peaberry

A roaster near you is my first recommendation. Also, I kinda like Boca Java's darker roasts, and that they send some coffee to our troops for each order I make. (http://www.bocajava.com). Starbuck's beans are the best I've used for my French press, but other wise I avoid 'em. They're not bad at all, but there's lots more types to try that tend to be a bit less expensive.

I'm drinking a cup of 5 Vegas coffee this morning...I like it...anyone else tried this yet?

This is the only coffee I buy. http://www.highergroundroasters.com/ It is just about the best coffee I've ever had. I've not had a roast that I don't like. This morning I'm having the Bolivian roast. It's a wonderful medium roast that is so amazingly complex. Almost like a Gurkha Regent. The finish is silky smooth with just a hint of chocolate.

You should really check these guys out. Absolutely amazing!!! Oh and they just won micro roaster of the year.

Dancing Goats

We like B & B's Dancing Goats. Order online and they roast it that day or next and ship it immediately. Best quantity is 4 1# bags. Gives you the best shipping price.

B and B's? What website is that sarge? I wouldn't mind taking a look at that....

This morning I'm trying another new coffee for me...the Smoke Jumper Coffee from Cigar.com...It's interesting...I actually taste some sort of smoke when I'm not paying attention, it just pops in there on my pallet. I have not paired this with a cigar yet, but I have a feeling it would compliment one well...anyone else try this coffee yet?

after spending another morning with this 5 Vegas coffee...I can taste something I get from the 5 Vegas tobacco. That salty, sweet, tip of your tongue taste....Is this coffee grown in the same soil as the tobacco used for 5 Vegas? Either way...I know for a fact this would compliment a nice 5 Vegas Torpedo let's say, because I can already taste it in my coffee.

Ding Ding Ding!!

There is a roaster about 25 minutes from my house now, my sister got me some Sumatran Manhelding whole beans that were roasted 6 days before Christmas...good stuff.

It ain't cheap but the wife got me some Kona for christmas. Place she found roasts it just before shipping. Actually came with a card dated by hand when it was roasted. It is very complex and not to strong, so the wife likes it too. Must say the smoothest coffee I have ever had.

Oh yeah it was Kona Peaberry, I also have a second pound of regular to try still. She got it at http://www.coffeetimes.com. They also sell Cigars.

I love Kona. One of my favorites is Surfin Ass and another is Aloha Estates. I always keep a bunch of Kona on hand, it's one of those must have varietals.

Kona is one of my favs also, but there is a fair trade Bolivian that comes from Ten Thousand Villages that is also pretty darn good - give it a go!!

Oh wow...having my first cup of kenya AA...this stuff is soooo good.

I also like the coffee at Prestogeorge in the strip,

Agreed - Nicholas coffee is close enough to walk to at lunch though, so I get most of it from there.

The strip has a lot of excellent places.

I suggest peter's blend.

Did I turn you on to this?

Peter is a great roaster - I buy from them when ever I go to NY!
