Since there was a demand from someone for more military stories, here is a thread for us military personel to entertain you with our adventures! Enjoy! :rnr:

Well, I did my advanced training after I completed my time at Sandhurst and my first session was specialising in a jungle environment. We were shipped out to Belize and made a parachute drop to are location - avoiding trees and such like that you find in jungles!

Our plan was to do the drop, meet at the drop zone, then make the 30km insertion march to our training base. To make things more interesting - we were being targetted and tracked down by 4 SBS (Special Boat Service) soldiers who were on exercise. As a result, we weren't allowed to leave any trail so any waste, we carried with us!

So, the funny point to this story, one of the soldiers in my troop was leading the way, hacking away through the bush managed to decapitate a rare endangered species of lizard. This thing was pretty large, around the size of a commodo dragon - we radioed in to base and they made him put in his burgen and carry it the whole way to base - the poor bugger had an extra 70 pounds on his back!!

Picture below is me on exercise in the jungle!

A sad story on the one hand, but since it was accidental, and done while on a serious training mission, not without a substantial element of the humorous. Always good to hear the accents of the U.K. around here. Of course Ando's not my type, as I much prefer that type of accent attached to a Nigella Lawson.  :sm_angel:

Spent some time with the 2nd Batallion Parachute Regiment. Here's me on guard with D Company. The guy on the end was a suicide bomber who we converted into one of the good guys. Real achievement.

Way to go Ando!

I'm sure there are many good things going on we never hear about...

of course we never hear about the good stuff... not in this country... not with this media. The only good things I ever hear about come from the O'Rielly Factor

Macallan-I wrote my final English paper this year about that very topic. Our "cherry-picking" media does us all a great disservice.

It's nice to have someone such as Ando who's able to share his first-hand experiences with us. I had a cousin in the first Gulf War, and the info he came back with was a lot different than the trickle of info which the media released. Thank you Ando for fighting the good fight! :cheerschug:

How'd you do on that paper? -JWG

Once again thank you all for your support. It is much appreciated and needed.

Here is a good one! This is me in Southern Iraq posing for publications after having just told the journalist how much I just enjoyed my worm omelette!! Happy days!

The other one is me and some of my guys training for winter warfare. Pretty chilly up in them Canadian mountains!!

The Faces of War. Thank you, Ando, on this V-E Day. I've always harbored an admiration for anyone who has to endure it.
