WTF is up with FedEx?!... and a thought...

About a month ago I had ordered some cigars from Cigar.com. I came home to find one of those "signature required" cards on the doorknob. No biggie, I've had those before. The next day I was home when the FedEx guy came by. He said that if I fill out the back of the card to give them permission, they'll leave any package in the future on my steps without a signature. I did, and wrote on the card for them to leave any future packages by the "side door".

Wouldn't you know it. Came home yesterday to find the dreaded "signature required" card on the doorknob! The real kicker was they had actually wrote "side door" on the card itself before placing it on the doorknob!

At first, I was upset that they couldn't leave the package, but then I thought of something: I realized that we have guys in various parts of the world that may not get their package(s) at all. I know first hand that the mail doesn't run all of the time for the guys that really need a little boost of morale. After thinking of those guys for a few minutes I thought to myself, "I think I can wait another day."

Could be a lot worse. They could have sent your cigars via DHL. My cigars (from an 'other' company, unnamed to protect the guilty) are a month overdue, almost exclusivly DHL's fault. Fed-Ex, UPS & USmail are all very good most of the time! (It helps that I am near Fed-Ex and if they leave a sticky, I can just run over and pick it up)

Freedom, I think I know who you are talking about. I think they are the only company that use DHL. I love Fed Ex and UPS. As for the post office I am not going to comment because if I get going on that subject steam will come out of my ears.

I had a similiar issue with some computer gear and was told that the vendor had selected an option for signing in person. I had sig cards on file with all the major companies.

The real kicker is that my wife is home most days, but she wasn't that day. Took an extra 4 days to get the item due to holidays and a weekend.

It gets tricky. If it is expensive and you release without signautre and it is stolen then the company who sent it to you is out the $$$. Signature guarantee just helps protect retailers I think.
