I want to give the Opus X a try.
I always order at least 3 singles in order to proper value & judge a new cigar.
Do you guys suggest I order 3 cigars at an average price of $32 each for a total of about $100.00.
Is this cigar that good? I'm not afraid of spending the money BUT.
Need a little coaching on this pending purchase.

I smoked an Opus X this evening - it was the Fuente Fuente and was beautiful although I had a slight problem with the wrapper. It was a very rich cigar, full bodied and bursting with strong flavours. Its a lovely cigar...expensive...but lovely and I would say worth the $$$.

they are amazing. not worth 30.00 each but you should splurge at least once in your life and have one or two on hand for those really great occassions. I find the fuente futente to be the best bang for the buck. Cigar masters suggest also that the size of the fuente fuente is the perfect proportional balance between wrapper and filler to give the perfect taste and ideal smoking experience for any brand or blend.

I had my first Fuente Fuente about a month ago at Dickie Brennans steak house in New Orleans. We were on our belated Honeymoon, and I had a fantastic meal, so, when the waiter handed me a desert menu with Cigars on it, well it only seemed right! I ordered the Opus for 34.00 and will keep a few in the humidor as Mac said, for those great occasions as long as they keep them in production. Very spicy, robust flavor, yet smooth, burned perfect and finished a little sweet! Walking up and down Bourbon street smoking it is a very fond memory of our trip that will stick with me for quite awhile.

Go for it!

My first and only time on Bourbon Street was around 1983. After a week of a trade show( World of Concrete) we spent one evening up & down Bourbon Street. Around 7PM we started and the first street barker summoned us into his bar. We went in.My first drink of the evening. A drop dead beauty was dancing on the bar. I would have taken her home to Maryland to meet my wife- she was that beautiful. Still with my first drink- I was very sober- she dropped her drawers and was more man than I was. Yes, a chick with a stick.

Malone, In all due respect your talking spending more than three times MSRP for a cigar. The Opus X is an exceptional cigar, but cannot hold up to the over-inflation that many vendors put on the cigar. It is very much worth trying but by making that sort of purchase, you are giving the message to the vendor that, that kind of price manipulation is alright. If a vendor makes the claim that they keep a few Opus on hand for the convienence of their customers, than they really should be selling them at cost and not making a dime on them. Just my opinion, but why capitalize on doing a supposed favor for a customer. If you will pm me your snailer, I'd gladly send you a few sticks to test drive.

malone,

nmcowboy is right, try to find some at msrp from an authorized retailer. We pay an arm and a leg for ours but that is the price you pay to have a source that always has them no matter what.

nmcowboy is right. if you can find them for msrp buy them up, as many as you can. we pay an arm and a leg for ours.

Ummm, uh, . . .

malone, . . .

about that "chick." You mentioned that would have taken her home to meet your wife, "she was that beautiful." Yes indeed, but since things turned out the way they did, it's a good thing you didn't. "She" may have taken your wife on one of those around the world trips that she may never have come back from. :dunno: :cryinlaugh:  :dunno:

Bloofington:
Might have been a good watch. We better stop this.

I smoked my first OpusX last Saturday, a Perfecxion No. 4. I was determined not to give in to all the hype and just judge the smoke on its own terms with no regard to what it said on the band.

Verdict...? Best I've ever smoked so far, bar none! The flavors were incredible. I usually stay away from oddball descriptions of cigar flavors ("lingering hints of cinammon", etc.) but as I was smoking it, all I could think of was "creamy coffee with lots of milk". That stick was like drinking a big cup of cafe au lait in New Orleans or something.

But I agree with everyone else - $30 a shot is insane. I get mine close to MSRP at the local shop. At $13, they are definitely going to become a regular smoke. I've already got two more Fuente Fuente's in the humidor!

Yep your hooked Sander. Not a bad thing though. An occasional celebritory Opus is great to look forward to.

I've not been a big fan of many of the other Fuente lines, the ones I've tried have been good but not worth the higher dollar they bring. I've not tried many of the Hemmingway line though.

Im with sander. Great cigar, maybe not an everyday luxury but great to have a few on hand for those special occassions. I have a box of RDC that has been aging away for over a year now. They only get better with age.

Nmcowboy, you need to try those Hemingways again, especially the Classic and BLASTerpiece.

I finally found some Opus X's in a local cigar shop. They only had the Fuente Fuente, but they were only $16 so I figured I'd pick one up.
