in my area are pushing for the local city to enact a smoking ban. Cities in the area like Birmingham, Hoover, Mountain Brook, have already passed some forms of smoking bans and others are trying.

In the city forum ( http://www.al.com/forums/trussville/ ) there is a couple of threads (47. & 48.) that are about the smoking ban. Looks like it could happen anywhere, everywhere. Of course there are a couple of us that argue against government butting in ...

Maybe we need to start circling our wagons.

The day they take my Cigars - :m16:

The bands are rediculous and something we are having no choice about and have to deal with it as it comes...

Really sucks...Especially when they start telling you that you can't smoke a cigar in your own house

rant on

i haven't had to deal with many anti-smokers recently because we let the tourists do what they want here, but for the one or two i have seen i tell them to go mind their own F-ing business. If i am outside on the beach smoking a cigar and you don't like it... there are about 30 sq miles of more beach you can go walk on. I have had people that are just walking by tell me i shouldn't be allowed to smoke on the beach. Your walking by for 2 secs, is it really that bad? I had to look at your fat stark white arse while you walked by so can't you take 2 secs of smoke and call us even?

Here in Michigan they are trying to get a statewide ban on smoking in all public places, I have sent letters to my local and state legislators letting them know how I feel about it. As for the anti's Bildo, I hear what your saying, I've had them walk out of there way to tell me they don't appreciate my second hand smoke, or one of my favorite encounters was when I was setting on the edge of a park away from everybody contimplating lighting the stogie I was chewing on, when this guy walks by and says "I hope your not planning on smoking that" and walks away, what did the damn fool think I was going to do with it, eat it? I'm with you Smoka if they come to my house to get my cigars :2guns: Rant over :argh:

They have initiated bans in alot of the counties around me. In our county it is ok to smoke in a bar, or in your own house/car, but in any public building that has at least 3 walls and a roof, smoking is not allowed. As a person who is allergic to smoke (tobacco, coal, ganja etc....) I am not as upset as a smoker would be.

Part of the problem comes from the fact that a person's decision to smoke in an enclosed location (restaurant etc...) infringes on my right to not smoke or be subjected to it. My ex-father-in-law was a chain smoker and he would even have a lit cigarette on the table while eating dinner. If I was at the table, I would take my spoon and dip it in my water and douse the end of the cigarette. For gods sake I can't imagine not being able to go 15 minutes without taking a drag on a cigarette.

I agree that it is sad that the government has to get it's nose into these kind of issues. Part of the problem is that there is a segment of smokers who really don't care about anyone else in this world and so the government feels it has to get involved. It has been proven that tobacco use can cause health issues and that second hand smoke is still harmful to the people who are only around smokers.

The ultimate comeback is to ask if they drive a car.

A cars emmisions put out the same amount of toxins in one mile as does an entire box of cigars.

mikegunner i agree that there are smokers that are jerks about it, i try to not to get frustrated with people. But i believe it should be the owner's decision in a bar or restaurant if they will allow smoking or not. Even if they have to decide if it is all smoking or all non-smoking. I don't think its right for the gov't to say nobody can smoke and thats final. Smoking bans, especially on border cities, have a bad economical effect.

Just like with the super high tobacco tax in some states it drove businesses under as customers went elsewhere. That is why the tobacco taxes are now being reduced in states like washington and shops are having to rebuild, although it is too late for some. The part that is super wrong is in places like florida where you can only smoke in places that sell tobacco (that might not be right on but its close, feel free to correct me). I went to a cigar store that was really a bar and it was packed because people can't go anywhere else to smoke. It even had a ton of cig smokers in it because they just wanted to be somewhere they could smoke.

My opinion is the owner should have the choice to make their place either smoking or non, and if you don't like whichever choice they make you can take your business to another bar/restaurant.

In CT they banned smoking everywhere.

They forced my local shop to open a lounge that me and my best friends live in. 8)

Nearly impossible to smoke in Orlando now too. The places that let you smoke, you best have had a tetnous booster with the past year before spending too much time in there.

I was in Allentown PA in April for Cigarfest, where there's still smoking sections in most of the restuarants... forgot how nice that was.

I had a few hours to spare last Friday in Oklahoma City. Wanted a beer and a smoke.
In 10 minutes I was inside the Bricktown baseball stadium with the groundscrew having a blast. Public not allowed but I got in. 30 minutes later I found a cigar bar- Makers and was with the owner smoking a cigar. He bought the beers- Cliff- a great guy.
These anti challenges are fun. There is always a good strong group that has found a way. I kind of enjoy it.
It's always more fun to outsmart them. It's usually pretty easy.

Mike: I understand the whole infringing on rights thing, but eliminating my right to enjoy a good smoke in a public place is not a compromise. It's merely a way to further punish tobacco companies which are really providing an immense amount of state budget money. If a bar or restaurant owner wants to allow smoking in his establishment, it is the owner's perogative. I assume there would be plenty of demand for smoke free bars and restaurants that both sides would be happy. I think California legislators really have bigger problems than messing with Arnold and his smoking tent.
