I'm just the opposite of you when it comes to wine and cigars.

I can taste differences in cigars, but I can't taste fruits, chocolate, etc in wines

I don't know about some of that fruit chocolate etc. but I do know this, you have to have a farily large glass, and don't fill it too full, try swirling that stuff around, and then give it a very gentle sniff so that it has a chance to fill your olfactorys, then take a gentle taste, and once again, don't swallow, but let it sit in your mouth for a short time, and really enjoy it, see if you don't get more flavour that way.

Going on an organised tasting is the best way to learn this stuff, and then it will open your eyes to a new side of wine that you probably didn't know existed - and its cheaper than Scotch!

If you wnat a cigar that tastes like somethign other than smoke, then why not try a flavored cigar?

Im not talking about El-cheapo White Owls. Go for a Helix or an Acid. The Acids especialy have a very bold non-smoky taste. A great Beginers Cigar.

I smoked a Blondie Acid last week, I wanted to throw up by the time I finished. I wouldnt recommend those to new smokers...would think that it will turn them off to cigars very quickly.

I find it easiest to pick up nut and cocoa/coffee tastes and smells very easily. Just the other day, while eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the taste of the peanut butter reminded me of smoking in general. However, other aromas like vanilla are tougher for me to grab.
