Been home about 6 weeks now, and have been trying bunches of different cigars.
I bought a box of 5 Vegas Gold, a box of Cu Avano, a bundle of JR alternative Macanudo Hyde Park and a box of Belinda Black. Also picked up a few assorted sticks here and there.
I'm a little disappointed in the 5 Vegas Gold. The write up says it starts off a little spicy then mellows out. Well, I've smoked about six or seven of them, and they have yet to mellow out even after they have been sitting in my humi for about two months. They have that peppery bite that I'm just not crazy about. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?
On the flip side, the Cu Avano is one heck of a cigar. But my go-to, cigar of choice so far has to be Belinda Black followed by the 5 Vegas Series A.
I just smoked my first 5 vegas gold today and thought it was great. I didn't notice any real peppery taste to it at all, though my palate is far from refined. I actually thought it compared rather favorably with the cusano 18 (my personal favorite thus far). I don't know whether it would make such a stark difference in taste, but is it possible the ones you have smoked have been dried out? Just a thought
I love the 5 Vegas line. The Limitada being my favorite with the A series a close second. I smoke the Gran Reserve as an every day cigar . The Gold is my least liked as I find it far to mild and a little bland. The same can not be said for the others in their line. Love em!

I really like the 5 Vegas line a lot. The A is great, I really like the classic and the LImitada is the best. I still have yet to try the gold, but I am usually not a fan of mild cigars. I'll have to try one soon.

Yes I like them all. Not horribly partial to the Gold, but the A and Limitada are great smokes. I used to not enjoy the classic, but recently they have changed something and are now a great smoke.
I've not tried the Gold, but please do yourself a favor and try the Alpha and by all means get yourself a CAO Brazillia both IMO fantastic smokes.

Just buy the cigars. The humidor is not made as well and you could make a coolerdor for half the price of that humidor and it will hold more sticks. You can get great deals on 5 vegas sticks at cigar bid.

this would be nice to pick up, if it doesn't go too high.

phish and soup, thanks for the feedback. I came across the deal at CI and just wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. I've been looking at humidors lately and thought getting a couple dozen decent smokes with one was worth it. I'll see what Tampa Humidor has.
I'm sure a lot of the newer members here will agree that this forum has been a fantastic resource for great information from members like you two who don't hesitate to help us "newbies" out. Thank you.
Since I started this "hobby" a couple of months ago, I've been trying to read and search the web for as much info as I can get. There are so many brands of cigars out there as well as the different types of tobacco (filler and binder and wrapper, oh my!). It's a lot for an scatter-brained old guy like me to try to retain.
Pass the ritalin please.
