Burn Out Issues

I bought an OpusX Perfecxion No. 5 today and had to re-light it 3 times while smoking it. Not sure why but definitely a great full body smoke and tons of flavor. I love anything Fuente =)

give it some rest in the humidor for a few months. it may make all the difference

Good idea! I have a few so i'll age them and see how they smoke down the road.

In the case of Opus, good things come to the cigar smoker that waits for sure.

Give those babys some age, and it will make a world of difference.

That will happen with Opus...pretty thick wrapper on those. Fresh ones will take a few relights typically. Worth the effort though. But as has been said by others, six months to a year and they get out of this world. Fresh they are very good. Aged, they are fantastic. Even with some age, I'll have to relight once or twice anyway, but well worth it. Good luck!

The best thing to do with any cigar that has the potential to burn poorly is to send them to me. Being the Cigar Wisperer I will be able to coax them into the perfect burn every time. :D

And he'll send you the ashes too! You can just tell the things burnt perfectly every time. It's a gift...no, it's a calling!

What is the Rh in your humidor. As so wisely stated earlier, Opus is a thicker leaf that can really absorb moisture. Carlito was quoted in Thor's magazine as saying Opus should be stored at a Rh of 63% so that it won't have burn issues.

i keep all my cigars at 65% and all Opus are aged at least a year. i have a 2 year old power ranger (xXx) somewhere in there.

i dont have burn issues with them. ever

Currently smoking an Opus Petite Lancero. I had to relight once so far and I'm about halfway through. It's got about five months on it and my humidor was about 66%. Very good cigar, but I'm gonna let the others sit a while longer. Not for the relight, just for aging purposes. So there you go...

I have my humidor at 63rh-66rh and it’s pretty consistent. Looks like I just need to let them site for awhile. I smoked the OpusX XXX last night and it was flawless but it could have been because I had it in my other humidor that is normally around 62rh-63rh. Hmmm in thinking move all OpusX over to my smaller humidor.

Elidog - if it happens again ill send it to ya ;)

I dunno...but I would think that would only dry out the wrapper, doesn't it take about 6 or 7 days to reach equilibrium at the center of the cigar with the rH it's in?

A couple hours can make a big difference!
Unless the RH in your home is really high.
