Need a new grinder

I am looking for a new grinder. Since I have a few 'spice' grinders(blade Brauns) I would like a hand burr grinder. Since a blade grinder beats the coffee over and over, a burr grinder grinds it, and drops it as soon as it is ground to the correct size. Yes, blades kill the coffee, SO
What hand grinder is available, and where would I find it? Of course it would be used in 'The Field' as well, along with the press.

I have a 13 year old Zassenhaus hand grinder, beautifully constructed and durable. A friend of mine bought it for me as a birthday gift back in late '91. It's had about 500 pounds of coffee put through it.

Although I'm boycotting France and Germany, and wouldn't buy it today, I did get one for his birthday at the same time, and wouldn't blame anyone for buying it today. It's a great product. What I would do is a "Google" search for "wooden hand grinders" and see what comes up.

Right to the source, and under $60 bucks! I think that would be a decent addition to my morning routine before heading out to work

The Zassenhaus hand coffee grinder is a premium grade burr coffee mill designed for daily use and reliable, consistent operation. This hand coffee grinder is far superior to the low-cost "decorative" grinders that are commonly available. Each Zassenhaus manual coffee grinder is crafted from select hardwoods and features a precision grinder mechanism machined from high-carbon, hardened tool steel. The grinding cone is positioned at the exact center of the grinding ring using cam followers which guarantees wonderfully consistent grinding results. Your coffee beans are processed into an aromatic and soft powder with no heat build-up during the grinding process so the flavor is preserved.

That's actually more advanced than mine, way more advanced. The "box" on the bottom is the same, but mine doesn't have the bowl shaped piece of metal and the very large handle is different than my small one. It looks even better and more heavy duty than mine and costs about the same 13 years later.

Now if I could find a brand other than Millstone up here without having to drive over 70 miles, I would be squared away. Of course Millstone is good. I like Millstone. It makes a superior cup of coffee. Dang that ain't working. I miss Wolf Coffee Company from Santa Rosa, NOR CAL

Ay yi, yi, are ya listenin' ta this guy??? This is the age of the internet, and his name is Switchblade, so for his whole life he's been familiar with things automatic.

Here we are living in the age of the internet. I just showed him how to buy a coffee grinder on the internet, but he's talking about driving 70 miles to pick up coffee beans he doesn't really want to buy anyway.

HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, SWITCH, WAY UP THERE IN WAY THE HECK UPSTATE NEW YORK!!!!

SWITCH ON THE COMPUTER!!!

Now, assuming you have a computer  , go to this great web site called http://www.amback.com. Yup, that's it, stay on the home page. See that? You can buy coffee RIGHT HERE at Your American Back Yard!!! :eek:mg: You can also read my reviews of a couple of the coffees that are offered here.

And if that isn't enough, keep that computer on, and go to http://www.gmcr.com, which is Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, one of the best coffee retailers in the world. And if that isn't enough, do a Google search.

Guess what? You don't have to go outside anymore!!! :eek:mg:

Yup, that's right, I just bought a pair of Reeboks on line, an answering machine, the HP Laserjet 3380, been buying booze and cigars on line for years, you NAME IT!!!

If you're like me and you want to avoid most of the human race most of the time, it's the greatest!!! So, stop kvetching about no coffee around for 70 miles. There's coffee everywhere!!!

This is the age of the internet!!! :duh: :duh: :duh:

This guy must be blond like me.

:neer: :cryinlaugh:

Heh heh heh.
I got a wife that does the shopping. If I went online, and bought coffee, paid the shipping, she would cut me off from my daily cup o joe. Of course she does like the idea of buying bulk green beans and roasting our own, but I have to find a much larger place first...motivation going here.
Bigger house means a basement, which means I can have my OWN place to smoke my cigars INSIDE, adn I won't be banished to the garage! One thing at a time. Trying to find a new place where the local command just announced that "There is over 5K troops on teh way, and we will face a housing shortage" is pretty hard. Can you imagine? Housing costs just went up a few hundred dollars

Ordering a pound of your favorite coffee on line costs the same as buying it in a store, especially if you're talking about using seven gallons of gas to go buy it. That's why on line business is booming, because a pound of Jamaican Blue Mountain, Colombian Supremo, Kenya AA, whatever it is, shipping costs included, by the time it gets to your door, it's the same cost. And I'm talking about ALL products, not just coffee. Mail order business wouldn't be what it is if people weren't getting a good deal. People have calculators nowadays.

Get out your calculator and do an imaginary order at Green Mountain, shipping and everything. Then go into three or four coffee shops and try to get the quality of the beans they send you at the same price. You'll be glad you avoided the human race and did it from home.

Your wife knows you're going to be drinking coffee anyway, right? What does she care how you get it if it doesn't cost any more and it means staying home to buy it?

Besides, you've got three White Owls, two Chocolate Phillies Blunts and five Swisher Sweets headed your way!!! At least you can tell her, look honey, with all these free cigars Bloof sent me, we won't feel the cost of our coffee for a whole month!!!

Trip to the Post Commissary: 12 miles, or a half gallon of gas, $1.10
Millstone beans: 1# whole bean, espresso roast $4.99
Trip back from base: $1.10
Total $7.19

Pound of 'Better Brand' coffee at local upscale market $7.19
Pound of 'Custom Roast' at local Borders $12.99
2.5# Millstone at Sam's Club $11.99
Green Mountain Espresso bean, 10oz w/shipping $12.35

OK, here are the numbers. Now I would love to have a cup of That Espresso bean, or Dark Indonisian every morning. No matter how I do the math, I cannot see how it will work in Female Math. Remember, Female Math would include 'Value Added' trip to Commisarry for two weeks/one week's worth of groceries, trip to PX, etc(One never knows what they process)
Now me, I have no problem using good beans at $12.00 a pound or so, IF, I am solo(TDY) Then I don't have to share with the wife, thus requiring only ONE pound a two week period. With her, we go through two pounds a week, and no way, no how, she can mathematically process $24 worth of coffee a week. And yes, gentlemen, it IS Cheaper to Keep her at this point in time
