I am still very new at this home roasting.
Was gifted a Fresh Roast Plus 4 months ago.
I already have over 100 pounds of green beans.
I have never had better coffee,
if not in quality of the beans
then the freshness of the roast alone takes it up a notch.
Glady help anyone out if I can.
PM me and I will do my best to help you out.
My good friend is one of the Guru's Bloof speaks of and I can always ask him if I do not know the answer.
Anyone that lves coffee will never regret roasting there own.
I am new t this site so bear with me as I find my way around.
Let the Java flow!

"I already have over 100 pounds of green beans"

Who are you serving in the morning, a gang of hippos??? :D

Welcome to the forum! I’m glad you could join us.

After some guidance from oedipus1 and kbarr, it looks like I’m going to be trying out home roasting, too. I’m going to get a roaster this week and I’ve been reading up on it all day. I think this is pretty exciting, actually. And it's a hobby I can't get into too much trouble doing. Well... at least I don't think I can.

Uh oh, the boss is getting into home roasting!!! I smell trouble brewing. The hippos will be lining up outside his house.

Harry The Hippo: Hey Fernando, hurry up wit' dat hundrit gallon awda, me an' da boys got ta get ta woik at da zoo!!!

Fernando: I thought you said FIFTY gallons when you called in last night!!!

Harry The Hippo: So, I dun brung a coupla extra frens. You complainin' 'bout extra business?

Fernando: I think the wife is going to kill me. These hippos are ruining our lawn. They DO keep the riff raff out of the neighborhood though.

The one peice of advise I wish to share is that you find a outlet that has nothing else on it.
When oedipus was at my home he said it was taking me twice as long to get to the same place.
When you roast the beans for longer than you loss some of the subtle flavors.
I would not use a outlet that has something else plugged into it.
It takes (4-6) minutes to roast coffee so we are not talking about
an all day process.
It really is easy!

Never plug a Hippo into the same line as a roaster.
You want to grill a Hippo!
Steamed, baked & grilled, never roast!

Better grill them before they drink all your coffee. They don't consume by the mug, ya know! :D

I just received my first order of raw beans!

Woo Hoo! I just received my order from Coffee Bean Corral. I ordered 1 lb of Bolivian Organic, 1 lb Peru Organic Decaf Swiss Water, and 3lbs of Columbian Supremo Narino Reserva! I can't to try roasting this weekend.

Very exciting stuff, Brenda. Having tried several of CC's home roasted batches, various coffees, I know you're going to be very pleased with the results. Also, the savings.

Well, I have some bad news. . . I tried roasting with a popcorn popper called a Poppery II. Although, this has worked for some folks, I must have a popper that is too old. It didn't get hot enough to roast the beans completely. I'm looking into getting a Freshroast plus. I'll post again with my results.

Just don't go stiring the roasted beans with a toilet brush and you'll probably be OK.

This is the unit I'm interested in The hot air units are sensitive to the amount of coffee. Too much or too little changes the roast. The drum units are reported to be much more consistant.

 Wow! That thing is awesome. I'm way too poor to get something like that.

BTW how do you post the words "This is the unit I'm interested in" to be the link of the site?

I don't yet have 100 lbs of unroasted beans, but I'm closing in on it. I'd give it a month. Tried some Guatamala Antigua peaberry last night, and I love it. It's official: until I started home roasting, I'd never really had a cup of coffee. I'd been drinking swill disguised as coffee.

The easiest way is to see what BBcode is used is to quote a post and inspect the bbcode in the composition window. To create a hotlink I click the URL button to open a URL tag, followed by bold bold to set the bold face open and close tags, then the URL button again to close the tag. I then paste the URL where it needs to go. The BBcode URL tag generated by the URL button looks like this: , In order for the link to render p...://www.amback.com][b]then the description[/b]
The bbcode in this post isn't rendered because I checked the box to disable BBcode in this post.

Thank you, djl4570. That's just neato. And yes, "neato" is the best way to describe it.

Trying some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe currently. When it was roasting, I knew it was going to be good. The aroma from the roaster, then from the grinder, and then from the press had me drooling. Finally drinking it, and, well, this is GOOD coffee.

I may go through a pound before I try something else. :p

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Ethiopian Yrgacheffe, one of my ALL-time favorites. Have fun, Unk, that's good, strong coffee. As for what djl4570 said, I got lost and my head started to hurt after he said "The easiest way."
