Reassessing No. 16. . . .

Okay, so it's been a few years, and I've tried many bourbons, about 40 I'd say. And I've gotten to the point where I've got a Top 25. That's great. But if I haven't tried something in a while, how do I really know where it stands?

And so, I now find myself in a period of contraction. Once upon a time I couldn't conceive of having a Top 10 or Top 15, and now several famous name bourbons can't even make my Top 25!!!

HEY BLOOF, OH THE PRESSURE, WHAT A DIVA!!! DOES IT MAKE YOUR BLOND HEAD SPIN, DEAR???? roared the 67,112 well soused fans in Jefferson's Reserve Stadium.

Why yes, it does make my head spin, which is why my Top 25 is on my hard drive, a disk, and a few printed copies.

But that's not the point here, since I was born with my head spinning. :eek:mg:

The point is that at least for the time being, enough is enough. I'm more than happy with a solid Top 25 of bourbon, and although a couple are still in the "tasting department" I'm going into a period where I'm sticking with the winners. Part of that is finding out whether an old favorite really belongs on the list at all.

It's not that I won't be picking up an occasional low priced no name just to see if there's another sleeper out there, but as the current collection winds down, I can solidly affirm that I'll be sticking mostly to the list when next football season rolls around.

So it was with that in mind that I finished my definitive tasting of a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve, currently No. 16 on my Top 25. Unique, distinct, spicy oak with honeysuckle, just like the other bottle I had a couple or more years ago. The same pleasant taste and intriguing combination of "classic" bourbon and "summer" bourbon flavors. And it does indeed deserve its place.

You'll up a little more than half a yard for a bottle of this but sometimes you have to, even if it's not your favorite. The uniqueness alone makes it worth it.

Jefferson's Reserve 15 year old single barrel bourbon. Unique and pleasant, somewhat expensive. If you've got it, treat yourself.
