It was alright. I think that it was just over the top with the blood spattering. I heard somewhere that every single background was digitally made also. I forgot to check that when I watched it but I don't remember the backgrounds being too cool. Neat battle scenes though.

The entire movie was filmed in front of a "green screen". The way they made the movie was very interesting.

I'm going to go against the grain a little here...but I really didn't think that the movie was that great. Maybe I just need to see it again, but I was just bored through most of it. I don't really know much of the story behind it, or really any of the relevant history, but I feel that being entertainment, I shouldn't need to research a subject to enjoy watching something about it.

Got it from Netflix over the weekend, but haven't had the time to watch it yet. I've seen the special on the actual 300 on Discovery Channel a few months back, and was quite impressed with the strategy involved on why they chose that particular area to fight.

I thought it very good. The action was far more Hollywood than classical Greek (the producers said the went for exciting over accurate). It was fun and it at least will expose people to history.

It helps if you remember it was actually based on a comic book which was itself based more on legend.

For a great book about the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae read Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. Its in my top five books of all time.

Having now seen both, I think I might like the History Channel version better. After I saw 300, I had to dig out my tape of the HS show and watch it again (for the third time).

Snake45,
Was that History Channel show you mention The Last Stand of the 300? I finally got to see that last week after missing it a few times. Very well done I thought. I liked how they tried to explain all the background and surrounding events.

That's it. It was History Channel, The last stand of the 300. I watched it twice.

It is in the DVR and copy-protected. I am sure I will want to see it again later and I want my brother to view it as well.

Looks like I need to check out the History Channel version

Well, I finally saw 300 this weekend. Well... judging as an action movie, it was pretty good. Judging it from a historical context (I was a history major) it was so wrong that it was almost unenjoyable. I haven't seen the history channel version, but I can't imagine it being any worse.

I had to keep telling myself that it is the movie version of a comic book that was very loosly base on a historical event. And that Frank Miller wasn't interested in historical accuracy, but in telling a story that he came up with.

Just my .02

And....remember the story was from the point of view of a Spartan that was sent back to tell the story. Of course he embellished a little (or a lot).

I see that the Hitler Channel's 2-hour 300 show--which got pretty good reviews above--will be repeated tonight at 9 Eastern time. Catch it if you haven't seen it before.
