Is it a law that one must be 21 years old to purchase cigars online or just a decision of cigar.com? Although I havent purchased any from tampahumidor.com, or anywhere online for that matter, it seems as though one need not be 21 to buy from them. Being in the 18-21 range and at school without my truck, it would be nice to be able to purchase online.

where does it say you have to be 21? I just looked in the Terms of Use and found this:

Minor Compliance
Cigar.com will not sell tobacco or tobacco related products to anyone under the age of 18, nor will it sell cigarettes. Cigar.com cannot be held responsible for minors purchasing tobacco or tobacco related products with a guardian credit card. By using the Site, you agree that you are at least 18 years of age.

I was filling out the form and, after typing in my birth date, a screen popped up and said that I had to be 21 to order. Id like to buy from cigar.com but not if l have to lie to do it. Oh well, they'll get enough of my money soon enough.

Been a long time since I had that kind of problem. Most of the sites I order from state 21 yoa. I know in AL where I live the age is 19 and most retail shops card younger looking shoppers. Maybe online places say 21 because it's the high end for what some states require in retail shops? I have seen some online sites that won't ship orders to certain states.

The first time I ordered from JR's, they wanted me to send in a copy of my drivers license!

It is not really a state to state thing. Individual counties can set there own age restrictions and several have a 21 policy. To keep everything simple and uniform many companies that ship nationwide institute a 21 year old policy. Also, lying might be harder then you think, companies out here that are trying to make an honest dollar in this industry use age verfication software and cover all the bases to make sure they are compliant with state and local laws.
