Certain cigars do age better than others -
Strong cigars age better as all cigars mellow with time.
Most serious cigar smokers will let any cigar they buy rest for 3 to 4 weeks before smoking it.
Most often their own storage system is much better than the shop where they buy there cigars.
I for like to smoke cigars around 62% RH -
it takes a few weeks in my humidor for the cigar to level off.

That said aged cigars are 2+ years & all cigars smoke better with
a year or 2 on them - IMHO!
Certain cigars (mild smokes) will start to loss some flavor after a few years. I've smoked some 20+ year old cigars that knocked my socks off!
The flavors as well as strength were amazing!

The best way to age cigars is to buy a box, stick them in your humidor, and forget about them for a couple of years. One day you'll open them up and be pleasantly suprised.

I have to buy them old or they never stay around!

CC, I can help you with your predicament.

Send me your boxes, and I'll be sure to keep them away from you smoking them.

And, uh, I'll be sure they age nicely.. uh, yeah.. 8)

Boxes don't last long around here!
I'm like the Cookie Monster & Homer Simpson combined!

I have found that certain cigars - HdM Maduro Rothchild for example - taste quite harsh when young, but you give them a few months or so, and it is like smoking a completly different cigar.

I also found that leaving a smoke out in my smoking shed for a few freeze thaw cycles does it no harm at all, and will increase the smokeability.

There you go, just my 1.86 cents worth.
