Are they worth the money?

As we all know price does not dictate taste or quality when it comes to cigars.

However, there are some good cigars out there that are pricey as well. Often times as Alex commented on the post yesterday about the Diamond Crowns people will say "It's a good stick but too pricey".

So my question is what sticks if any do you know of that are pricey (over $10) but you feel they deserve their price? Opus? Padron?

Why do you feel they deserve that price? Taste? Quality? Rarity?

Supply and demand. If something is rare, price goes up. If something is popular, price goes up.

I'd have no problem dropping over $10 for a Padrón 1964 Anniversary, Ashton VSG, a Fuente Añejo, Work of Art, Untold Story or an Opus.

If Graycliffs and the Gurkha Centurians were half the price, I'd buy those too.

Thanks Brenda,

That is exactly what I am looking for. I have had a Padron 64 and I agree I didn't mind paying the price for that. Ashton VSG is next on the list!

I'm always on the lookout for online specials. Those one day deals are fantastic. It really gives po' folks, like myself, the chance to try premium smokes.

I feel the same way about the Diamond Crown, and Graycliffes - they are good smokes, but just way to expensive. Now any Fuente or Opus is worth the price, but there are just too many other inexpensive cigars that will provide the same level of enjoyment for me to go looking for them.

Besides, if you buy a cheaper cigar, you can get a more expensive drink to go with it!! :D :D :D

Thank goodness for Friday Deals!

I smoked a few Diamond Crown Robusto's with Alex. They had a couple years of age on them, and Alex seemed to think they were past their prime and didn't age well. Since I had not had one of this age previous to the ones I smoked, I was unable to comment on the aging. I thought it was a great cigar, I could only imagine how great these cigars were in their prime.

As far as pricing, I collect rare and coffin boxed cigars. If it were rare enough, I would have no problem putting down some serious coin for something I wanted.

Here is a quick list of cigars that I love at any price but happen to be expensive:

OpusX
Camacho Liberty
Pueblo Dominicano
Olde World Corojo
Litto Gomez Diez
Matasa 30th Anniversary
Oliva Master Blends

Capt: I loved the Diamond Crown and would pay for another.

Alex: that Pueblo D. is another that I had forgot about. I will be smoking one of them again very soon!

No one has mentioned Davidoffs , the Double R is about 30 a stick, & there are the Zino Platnums that start at 13 bucks, great smokes for sure but unless some one else is buying ...... hahahaha, I did go for the 15 Low riders to get the davidoff swiss army knife, complete with a cigar cutter & cork screw, a piece of equipment you should never leave home with out, ! I have seen the knife in a Swiss Army catalog & it is 55 bucks, & when you send in the 15 bands it was free so that was a fair incentive to by the zinos , & there were great smokes !, I would rather have one of them VS a Fittapaldi for the same price , & that is one cigar to add to the list of 2 much $$$, How ever I dont mind paying 30 bucks for a Monte #2 ISOM, or the "A" , with the 5 to 7 cigars I smoke a day, it can get real Expencive !!Thank God I can deal wholesale !
Enjoy, Vince

Was that the Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve? Have anything to say about it?

I have a few I'm letting rest a little while but liked the few prototypes I've had very much.

Had a Diamond Crown Maximus No. 5 not to long ago that I thought was a very nice smoke. I would definitely buy another.

And I have a Pueblo Dominicana that pbburner was generous enough to send me in a F&G win. It calls to me every time I open my humi. :)

Light the Pueblo up it was a great smoke. My first one I smoked it out in the back yard by the fire. It was a great night made better by a great smoke.

Even burn, well constructed, well balanced flavor!

Padron Anniversary and Opus are worth the price. I'd also put the Gurkha Class Regent Torpedo on that list. But, as others were saying, you can get great premium smokes for less such as the 5 Vegas Limitada or the regular Padron line especially the 5000 and the 6000. The Oliva Classic line is another high quality at relatively low prices.

I am aware that there are great cigars that cost less. I love a great Cusano and many of the Rocky Patel line.

However, I specifically wanted to know what others thought about premiums with the more expensive price tag. I was very interested in which ones were worth it. If any?

Quagmire,

It is in fact the Rocky Patel Olde World that I am referring to. I had the Maduro and was not totally blown away so I never got around to smoking the Corojo. Then I found one at the bottom of my humidor and brought it with to a wedding and lit it up. It was fantastic. Nothing like the Maduro. A lot of the folks I have talked to that have tried both are giving me similar feedback.

Alex, I have a Maduro in my humi. I wasn't sure when I wanted to try it, but after reading your post I think I'll let it sit for a while. Maybe some age on it will help.

Damn. All my shop had when I was there were the maduros. Are there any plans to sell these in 20 or 25 ct boxes that you know of? I like the Edge Lite but won't spend the money for a 50 ct so I certainly won't spent the money for a 50 of the Olde World.

Nol Olde World will be 50ct only. I am getting osme 20 count boxes of Edge Lite for Cigar.com in the coming weeks if you are interested.
