I ordered 1 pound of 65% beads. I have a 50qt Igloodoor. I have already made up a couple of sandwich size tupperware containers which I was using with Florist Oasis & 50/50 PG & H20.

Can I just use the existing tupperware containers, add a pound or so of beads for my Igloodoor? If so, how much distilled H20 should I add to the container?

THX

I would use new tupperware containers, as I wouldn't want any PG residue contaminating the new beads.

You should slowly add the water until 80% of the beard are clear. Turn them ll clear and they will not be able to absorb any extra humidity...

I'd probably just run the Tupperware through the dishwasher, then wipe it down with distilled water or alchohol to remove any deposits.
PG isn't that nasty, and it's probably less nasty than whatever's on new Tupperware. Either way you'll want to wash the Tupperware, and I doubt any significant amount of PG is going to make it through a good washing. Just to be extra clean, maybe wipe it down with distilled water before use.

Yeh, what they said. Wash you tupperware in the dishwasher, and SLOWLY ADD DISTILLED H2O. I bought a $2.00 spray bottle from Walmart, filled it with distilled water, and I slowly spray the beads. I spray till all the beads are clear, BUT, I also have another small container with dry beads in it. These dry beads absorb any extra moisture if its needed. The 80% clear this does work well to. I just do it different.

You can always use a glass container like a glass bowl. They would be just as good as a tupperware and not have to worry about any residue.

Can you explain this Barcochris? I used (stopped when an ex-gf killed off most of the fish, but always by accident.....) to be heavy into fish/coral and dont remember a "bag" type filter, at least one that you can make into a sausage!

use a filter bag for a fish tank. make a little sausage. that works great
I'd like to hear more about this too. I have an order of beads on the way and am trying to figure out what to put them in.

Do you just lay the "sausages" in the humi or do you put them in/on something first?

At petsmart the sell a Media bag that would be used to put filter media in (carbon) I use the medium and it works great, they do not have them on there website. I will find a link and post it

I am going to order beads form hartfelt as soon as they get more 65% in. my plan is to put a shotglass (or two) full of them in the bottom of my desk top and im going to take out the foam from my credo style and fill that with beads as well. With any luck this will be more than required to reach correct humidity. My desk top is my "practice" humi. If they work out well ill use the rest of the beads (or more if i need them) in a 300 count.

I like the shotglass idea. Maybe a combination of barcochris' aquarium-bag-sausage-thingy and the shotglass. I will definetly use at least 2 in my 200 count humi.

I didn't know how long it would be before heartfelt got the 65% beads in, so I went ahead and ordered the 70%.

Or, you could use panty-hose.

David at Heartfelt also sells plates tubes and empty bags for the beads. They're mesh drawstring bags that are very inexpensive.

If you like lower humidity, he also sells 60% beads now.

Note: I have no affiliation with David. I kinda wish I did though, maybe I'd get the beads cheaper!

Ok, got my beads today. This is what I'm using and the placement in the humi. There is also a tray that sits above the cigars shown. Do you think this set-up will do the job? Thanks for any input you might have.

though I dont have the beads it seems to me that the more surface area you have of them exposed the better they will work. if you can gat a low flat dish (almost like an unused ash tray) that you could put on the top shelf it may be even more effective.

... but then again since I dont have beads yet I may be 100% wrong

I think you could be right. I've added a wider, shallower dish to the top shelf. Kept the two square one where their at. I'll monitor the digital hygrometer and see how well it works.

Thanks for the input kuzi!
