A friend of mine from the Empire area in Michigan turned me onto Bell's Oberon beer a few years ago - liked it alot. Just found a Bell's sampler pack in my local beer store. The Java Stout was interesting, but a little too bitter. The Winter Wheat Ale was very tasty and the Best Brown Ale was good too.

Anyone else like Bell's? If so, what is your favorite?

If you get a chance, try the Double Cream Stout. It's like a strong cup of coffee flavored with heavy cream and brown sugar. Positively decadent and incredible on draft.

If you're feeling really adventurous, try the Expedition Stout (my fave.) 11.5% ABV; much like the aforementioned coffee spiked with bourbon. Wonderful on a cold winter's night!

We have Bell's here too. Heinens has it. It is pretty great stuff once you get over the price shock.

Yep, the Oberon is a favorite of mine. And I'm not partial because I'm from Michigan.

Capt, where in Michigan are you? I may be up that way next month to visit a friend who just bought a house in Empire.

Cybrus, I live about 20 miles west of Detroit. In Oakland County, Commerce Twp. I am usually over in the Cigar Forum, PM me and tell me where the heck Empire is. Mabe we can hook up for a Bell's and cigar! Ryan

I quit drinking about a year ago but I saw this thread and felt compelled to post a reply.

I was a huge fan of the Kalamazoo Brewing Company having almost grown up drinking their products, I think my first kegger was a dual barrel of stout affair sometime around 1987. I have watched the Eccentric Cafe grow from a small dusty room into a full blown huge alehouse over the years as I have watched the company go from a storefront operation into a pretty good sized brewery. If you are ever in Kalamazoo I would highly recommend stopping in at the cafe as they always have 2-3 specialty beers on tap that are not bottled. If you go at the right time of year you may even be able to get a couple bottles of the infamous Eccentric Ale. Another bonus is that across the street is a first class brewery named Kraftbrau that specializes in German/Bavarian and Austrian beers.

Whoever mentioned the Double Cream Stout has good taste 8)

Larry Bell definitely belongs in some hall of fame.
