Well I grew up smoking them with my dad now that I quit smoking a couple of years ago I'm going with cigars. I love mild cigars but I have no clue about humidors, cigars, cutters, etc, I'm clueless.

Question, I'm wanting to buy this humidor, is it okay? http://www.phatash.com/phatash/catalog. ... &linkid=45

And I was going to start out at cigarsaroundtheworld.com and start with a sampler pack to see what I like.

Am I going about this process right?

Browse the pages on the forum, because everything will be answered for you. I'll be back tomorrow or much later to help out on anything specific, and I'm sure others will chime in as well. So far, it seems like you've got a good start.

that humi looks good enough to me, make sure you get a digital hygrometer and don't go by the one mounted on that humidor. Also browse the forum and you will quickly learn how to "season" the humidor etc. I recommend getting some boveda packs to use as humidification. I will think about the mild cigars and chime in on that later.

I just started on this forum and have been smoking cigars for about 2 months now. The folks on this forum will give you some tremendous no nonsense advice....definitely take it. The one thing I have learned the most - patience!

btw - I really like the Baccarat Luchadore that is in your second sampler for a mild smoke - sweet tip and pretty mellow and smooth. I am slowly getting through my stash trying to figure out what I like the best.

baccarats are pretty tasty, a little much at times...
i got a lot when i started out, but the construction is sh*it
50% of the time, they wont even hold together halfway
as far as mild goes, montecristo #3s are good, dunhills are also really mild (pricy though)
you should try out a romeo y julieta 1875...i cut my teeth on those
not quite mild, but it certainly wont knock you on your ass either

hope that helps

I'll agree with Mastershake, the regular Monte line is mild and consistent, just don't expect too much in flavor. For a little more bang for your buck, try Romeo y Julieta and Arturo Fuente...you will not be disappointed. Also, if you like a sweet profile, be sure to try the maduro lines as well. If given the choice between a Fuente 858 natural or maduro, I'll take the maduro any day.

Great choices in the way of sticks. Definitely get a digital hydrometer as well as a decent cutter and torch. Matches get old fast and a cutter that has a replacable blade will save you a lot of frustration and money in the long run. EBAY, EBAY, EBAY. Best deals on there. If you get a nice torch, only fill it with colibri or lava butane as others are dirty and foul up the mechanisms. I have an oasis humidifier myself so don't know much about the capabilities of boveda packs or "pucks" but they seem kind of small for a humidor that size. Maybe some other guys can give you advice on that.

Most importantly, find a reputable tobacconist who has a selection or is willing to order for you. That one time single makes knowing where to go worthwhile.
